Excellent game, great storyline.
The singleplayer campaign was too short - I usually get bored with games before I finish them and move on to another before seeing the end. Lucky there is multiplayer...

I'll never understand anyone playing a game beyond normal/medium personally...just sucks the fun out of it for me, makes it a more trying experience, but I guess I'm driven by different things...
Last 2 I finished were Resistance (dissapointing last stage but otherwise pretty damn good game) and Uncharted, which was pretty good the entire way through, I'm definately getting the sequal on launch...yknow, if work doesn't give it to me.

Normally, I don't. But since it had the achievements, and Halo 3 and Gears Of War are my only two player co-op games that my dad likes, we bump the difficulty for more replay value.

I never finished that one...all that boat/map shit just annoyed me, suppose I got a fair ways into it though. Probably won't replay through all that though.
I finished Ratchet and Clank - Tools of Destruction.
I seriously don't have a single bad thing to say about this game...other than I kind've WANTED it to go longer, and the last stage/boss might've been a little more intricate...but I guess they kept a standard challenge level, and I got pretty good/upgraded towards the end.
I was offered to replay the game on "challenge" level which has some additional enemies and difficulty, but you start with all of your upgrades and weapons.
Anyways, yeah...I wasn't a fan of the series, but this game was awesome, and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone
a: with kid/s
b: that thinks they don't like platform-y games.
c: Fans of the series thus far.
3-4 More Ratchet and/or Clank games coming out accross PSP, PS2, PS3 formats over the next year, and I think I'll definately be taking a look at those.

Shadow of the Colossus.
I admit. I looked at a guide twice, once to locate one of the bastards, once to help with the final fight (the shoulder shot, if that means anything to anyone)
...Very nice to look at, but in all honesty, it's a bit much to put yourself through, the majority of the game you're just running around "looking", no dialogue, no characters, and no real storyline aside from the beginning and end.
Don't think I'd play this again, just because it's been that much of a damn quest.

They seem to be undecided on a sequel but I'm sure their quest for money will bring us one soon. As for the DLC I'm not 100% sure but I KNOW there's a nail gun where you can pin people to walls and that alone makes me smile. Not as cool/vicious as the meter in Fallout 3 that keeps track of the corpses you eat but it's a step in the right direction.

First half was absolutely perfect. Perfect blend of stealth, action and movie, and some of the movies are really awsome i tell ya.
Actually the first mission, if i'm not mistaking, is the best. The surroundings and especially the sounds are astonishing. Like one of those really well made shoot-em-up war games that are out there.
But from the "Shadow Moses" mission (mission 4 i think) and on it feels like the creators loses their creativity and imagination and i ended up playing something that reminded me of a new neat looking version of the first MGS. A little disappointing.
Also, the story started out great, but soon got deep, very VERY deep. We're talking beyond Final Fantasy here. Mostly because the story centers around the 3 former games, and if you haven't played all the games or just can't remember the story behind each one of them you're just screwed. Just like i was. I quickly decided to stop figuring out the meaning of it all and just played the game, or else i would've been playing with a huge headache.
But the worst part about the story was all the loving they managed to squeez in allover. Even the smallest characters had to have some kind of relationship going on with somebody. It was gross and didn't fit in at all in this game and story. We just don't need that kind of crap in a macho game such as MGS.
And then there was the voice of Solid Snake. It bothered med instantly. I'm sure they wanted him to sound like a badass Snake Plissken grandpa, but he sounded more like someone choking on his own vomit.
But when a gameplay is as good as this you can forgive a lot. ;)

I LOVED episode 2's ending, and yes it's pretty short but it's intense and while Ep. 1 had an ending that left you excited about 2 but not really much else... Ep. 2's ending really digs into the story. Play through Portal first (super short but filled with dark humor and one of the best ending videos ever), it ties in a bit with 2 (and I'm assuming will be a MAJOR part of 3).

HL2 takes place about twenty years after the first one. Did you beat HL1? Because defeating the Nihilanth supposedly caused portal storms on Earth which attracted the Combine who basically just conquer other planets and bleed them dry.

i think it is more like 11 years later (alyx was a kid during the black mesa incident, but not a small one)
Gordon has been in a stasis, out of the loop so to speak. the world has gone one without him since he accpeted the gmans offer at the end of HL (assuming you chose not to leave the train ;))

no clue. pretty sure ,most of the developers at Valve dont know either. the story seems very malleable, some things are set in stone, some are added after the fact.
Do this though, if you decide to play the original (or god forbid, black mesa source if they ever fucking finish it...), watch The Mist at some point and marvel at the similarities.

"Half-Life 2 begins an undisclosed number of years after this war, after the rule of the Combine has been firmly established. There is, however, some evidence from the Half-Life 2: Episode One official website indicating that Half-Life 2 takes place nearly two decades after the Black Mesa incident.[2] Such a time frame is logically consistent with the aging of the series' characters between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. It also explains why there are no children in the game, the Combine having set up a reproductive suppression field a short time after the war, preventing any further births."
The G-Man is really tough to read... the Vortigaunt's obviously (from their reaction to him in HL: E1) don't trust him. Not only that but he WAS the person who gave them the sample which caused the Black Mesa incident. I think it's his "employers" who really need to be worried about though.

im a huge fan of the series, and this is my favorite so far. There are literally over 100 events to complete throughout the game. its huge. The map is way bigger, and this one allows you to edit the map itself, mid gameplay, during missions, whenever. having trouble getting over something? edit the map, place a kicker somewhere, or rig up some rails to get yourself around something. Brilliant feature that makes the game rely on problem solving as much as skill.

Not a bad game...of course would've been more impressive some 7-8 years ago, which I think is when it was released.
An interesting experience of a slightly resident evil vibe.
The combat system was cool, the boss fights were pretty decent, the puzzles got annoying, the musical score was great.
I have to say, not very "scary", I'd hoped something involving demons might throw together a bit more atmosphere, but hey...it was good enough.
Quite a short game overall though...under 6 hours...

I just recently decided to dust off Bioshock. Finished it in a day, rather forgiving little game it was.
I thoroughly enjoyed and still think it's use of lighting and indirect story setting via historical audio tapes worked a treat. I feel plotwise it suffered a little with trying to deliver big KABLAM like twists and would have felt much better if they hadn't tried that.
The ending was however very emotionally satisfying, which is nice.
I jsut wish they hadn't muddled up so much of the philosphy and symbolism towards getting to that ending, it lost so much color in the last hour or two that I was kind of glad it was over.
Final Fantasy XII
I had this game for a long time before I actually started playing...
And once I did I spent most of my time messing around rather than doing what I was supposed to. Levelled up too much so the final fight was a yawn... just set the gambits and literally let the game play itself.
I kinda regret doing that, the game was fun but it would have been better if there was some challenge involved :o

A bit of both.
Sneaking around witches would be a good idea.
More Tanks appear.
Things like that.
But if your good, then it should be fun.
I don't think you can choose difficulty on verses, but if you do, make sure you, and at least 2 of your teammates have mics.
That and you don't get a bunch of douches on your team.
That's the best way of getting all four of you to the safe house.
If one of you dies, then usually you all do, and there are no closets to respawn you.
But being a zombie is fun, and gives you interesting tactic ideas.

Then again, this IS a role playing game. I think that some of my disappointment is knowing that there is a LOT of that world that I left unexplored, quests undiscovered and uncompleted, all that stuff. Sure, I could restart it, but... I invested SO much time in this game. lol

I found the ending *mostly* satisfying, though that was cheifly becuase my character had grown so far that he was willing too sacrifice himself for something more important... something that may make everyone's life less horrible. At that stage my character wasn't able to be threatend by anything, I'd already killed all 5 behemoth mutants and could walk through washington DC in my sunday best if I felt like it... in the end Colonel whathisface was not and his army of armored nut jobs were nothing I hadn't killed a hundred times before.

It was a little more fun this time around, and a bit longer. Enemies were tougher and there were more of them.
Started on the Hard difficulty last night on the No Mercy campaign, and I didn't get too far. I think I got past the first chapter. Definitely much more of a challenge.
I really only play that game when I have friends on, playing a campaign with buddies on expert is awesome. Vs. mode is cool too, I love killing survivors.

Dead Space... which... well it suffers the same faults as many video games. It manages to deliver some solid design with it's clunky industry age like high tech world, quite horrifying monster design (especially the freakish infant mutants with strange tentacles...) and I suppose a passable setting. The story is however... bad, the shiny side of the disc actually inspires more emotional resonance then any of the games characters and the feeble attempts at twists are just embarassing to endure (coming from someone who almost never sees twists coming).
The actual combat is fun and satisfying, though I don't feel like an engineer I feel more like some sort of lethal unshakable special ops agent that was undercover as an engineer... I should look like Steven Seagal and also have a part time job as a cook.
I felt it was good enough to play through and on the harder difficulties pretty tense... as you slink around praying to whatever Sci-Fi gods there are to not throw anymore zombie like creatures at you until you can scrounge up some more ammo... and then inveitably running like hell when the aforementioned Sci-Fi gods totally stiff you ... the fuckers.
Default difficulty was a slight bit to easy, you can assail hordes of creepy looking monsters without enough threat to really scare you.
Definetly passable though.

I've finished the story mode of the Jackass game. The game was much better than I thought it would be- the balance between easyness and difficulty is good. There's lots of fun minigames. I've finally found some rythym games I can be bothered with.

Perhaps it's something of the hype jading the game. Though I do think the first few hours were much greater then the last few.
Partially it's just to easy even a clumsy shot as myself never died and that sucks suspense out of scene the threat of death is just non-existent.
And the themes to tend to dry up and sort of devolve the game into a shoot out.
Still, saving freakish small girls, hunting steampunk golems and helping a homicidal lunatic construct his opus was all very dark and skillful design.
Deadspace.
what an easy final boss. i beat it without getting hurt once....
The final boss was a rather simplistic affiar agreed, though nothing in the entire game was especially challenging. Still I thought that the Leviathon boss in Zero G was a pretty awesome fun fight and when you got onto the miltary ship and the stasis necros came for you... that was a moment that it almost FELT like a horror game.
I think the game would work better with sort of a "Fear" bar that would shake up Isaac's aim and make his reloading more clumsy. He is simply too efficent.
I just finished Heavenly Sword. I bought it cheap and figured I'd give it a run. I thought it was pleasantly beautiful and had enough really odd characters to make it compelling. If you want the feeling that you are playing a campy Chinese fantasy film this one delivers that pretty well.

And I completed a season of NFL Superstar Hall of Fame on Madden NFL 2009 and a season in Franchise mode. I like all the modes in the madden series--but thus far Superstar Hall of Fame is my favorite--that and the mini-camp games--primarily the rushing attack.

DEAD SPACE- 20/10
Ok, i've stressed this enough to friends, but this is the best game... ever. Not everyone agrees, but in all honestly, this is *the* best horror/survival game ever made. The story is incredible, and the game dwells in mental fears as well as the physical demons attacking you fears (the characters, including yours, literally lose their minds as the game goes on, and you hear things like voices, and songs, it's bizarre. The soundtrack puts the soundtracks to John Carpenters movies to shame (take that overrated shit and shove it), and the levels and tasks are fantastic... It beats Half Life 2 by a long shot in my book. Seriously underrated game...

That isn't the only time you have to shoot stuff with the space gun. Later is a bit harder though. I think it helps to alternate left and right clicks quickly. It seemed to knock the asteroids out faster. Try it? Oh, and Mothman. Dead Space rocks. The end.

Kya - Dark Lineage
One of the slightly obscure titles I'm trying to stock up my PS2 collection with.
A bit like Crash Bandicoot meets Zelda with elements of Tomb Raider.
Not a GREAT, AWESOME kind've game but had a nice musical score, cute scenery and a difficulty level (aside from a few VEEEERY annoying stages) that most gamers could get through.
Decent storyline, combat system ends up a little like P.O.P.

So if you've kept up to date with the "what are you playing" thread you'll know I went in pretty apprehensive about this title - there was a thing I didn't like about the control system which I was able to change (to double stick movement), and I swear to god, that "fps view" thing that was originally mapped to the right analogue stick? when I took it off there it go mapped to the "up" button on the D-PAD. Throughout this game, I NEVER once used that feature.
Then there was the fact that it was a stealth game, which I just don't get into.
However, I gritted my teeth and started playing through it.
Now, one thing I noticed was that the hiding/noisemaking in the first level didn't work out so well for you. Now I don't know if this was because I'd just started the game and not being a stealth player fucked it up, but it seemed to get a fair bit easier in the later levels...actually, by the latter part of the second overall level, a junkyard as I recall, I had it down.
I loved the storyline, it was like the running man meets saw meets far cry, well, there were elements of them all in there. The storyline and how this game was set up was never an issue...it was cool.
The gameplay, was generally hard I found.
I died probably about 20-30 times throughout the damn thing, and there were about 3 levels that almost pissed me off just that little bit more would've resulted in play termination. (the train station/lot and the courtyard with maze towards the end) This game could be a real motherfucker.
I have to say though I was quite pleased with how the game evolved throughout the levels...sneak and kill creeping up in levels until it became an almost all out shooter towards the end...of course, the game really punishes you for being impatient. The setting too, I never expected to escape the gameshow with the reporter chick, I really enjoyed that they threw that variety in there.
The pig thing at the end was interesting - and quite a scary 'ol level there, but I have to say it didn't represent all that much of a challenge, well, there was a couple of times he cut me, and some running away in parts, but he didn't manage to kill me. It was a nice formulaic boss fight though.
Insane characters, and pretty good AI. The gore/kills, well yeah they were brutal but in all honesty not really a selling point for the game IMO.
I only got 52/100 as a final score, which probably represents how I just scraped through and got seen a whole bunch, but yknow...for my first "stealth" type game, I feel pretty accomplished actually completing it.
I might take a look at #2 (what platform is that?) but I think after that I'll be right off the stealth games again.

Recently decided to not continue playing 2 Moons (mmorpg) after a fun 3 month run at Rayne's house. I figure i've played most of the maps, and seen all there is to see. Fantastic game, and i'll never forget when I first started playing with Rayne, and died every 10 minutes. But it is an Acclaim game, and that means hackers, $ buyers, and scammers. So much now that it's accepted. When everyone else is jumping 10 levels a day and you're actually doing the work to get your xp, it gets a little pointless, so, it's time to call it quits. I consider it beaten.
