Good game though... very entertaining.

The game and missions ended much too early. Before I got to become a serious badass.. :(

And can someone enlighten me. What's the point of playing on when you've killed the last boss and talked to that reseacher girl? What is left to do then? I don't see any new missions. Have i missed something?

Harder enemies and better loot. It's even foreshadowed in the beginning when the bus driver says he has a feeling you'll be doing this again real soon.

I'm not talking about starting all over. I'm talking about what happens after the credits. Then the game lets you keep on playing, but why? What is there to do?

Uncharted 2.
They've improved upon the first...epic storyline, great voice acting, super-realistic locales that borderline with fantasy in areas, an actual workable H2H combat system this time, some VERY tense battle scenes, and an appropriate level of challenge.
Graphically (to confirm) fucking superb, this in my opinion is the best looking game on the PS3 to date.
...Oh, and a "real" boss fight.

Self contained storyline doesn't require a playthrough of the first, everything is covered well enough to slide into the game, but those that have played and loved the first one, you'll be taking that to another level.
Absolutely a pleasure to play through beginning to end, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Borderlands on the PC.

Absolutely loved this game.

It was a bit disappointing that there is a bug that causes it to crash when you kill the final boss if your weapon is scoped. Killed it twice, only to crash to desktop and have to start that battle again before I found out the way to stop it from crashing.

This bug happened with Win7 64bit. Not sure if other versions are affected.

DS:

Scribblenauts
Mario VS Donkey Kong 2: March of the minis.

As I said scribblenauts is a little interesting, but kind of poorly executed...while it does seem to promote lateral thinking and finding various solutions there's no great deal of creativity allowed for and a lot of the items you create just DON'T work as intended...I would hope that if a sequel were produced, they'd address this issue.

MvsDK2
OK, I'll start by saying that in the end, I didn't hate this game...it was a little easy but I enjoy the kind of puzzles and methods of solving them in sequence that were available.
Now, onto what pissed me off...now there's one group of people here who will understand where I'm coming from, that being those that have played the titles in this series prior, those being:
Donkey Kong (Gameboy)
Mario vs Donkey Kong (Gameboy Advance)
If you've played one or both of these, then you'll be aware that they were pretty damn good games, a nice mixture of puzzles, action, and some damn good boss fights. While my preference lay with the original I thought MvDK was a pretty good follow up, I went in expecting a remake but it was actually a damn good sequel.
Now...for those of you who played and enjoyed either/both of these, and haven't yet tried out or seen MvDK2, here's a spoiler....
There's no Mario, well, there is, but he's not playable.
It's a stylus only game (WHY? There's goddamn buttons there, nintendo...)
It's a lemmings clone with a Mario "skin".
These were my factors of disappointment.
Great series of games, IMO stopped dead in its tracks.
Will they make another one more like the other two now? Probably not.
It was just strictly not as fun.
That said it was an "ok" game for those who like things like lemmings etc, but as a fan of the titles mentioned above you'd probably be disappointed.

First half of the story was over the top. Last half was a little too much and too far-fetched.

GTA - Lost & Damned
While I think it was clever how they laced it into the storyline of GTA4, anyone who's read my other post will know I had issues with this game.
Those who haven't, it was pretty much that every single mission got you a wanted rating of 2 or more stars upon completion, and while I don't mind fucking around in the game, killing things and getting chased by cops etc, when it's during a mission it just gets ANNOYING.
That and yeah, I just don't find the GTA series as fun anymore since SA.
Overall, nice looking game.
VERY VERY short though...like, it seemed a lot of effort to put into something that felt like 1/4 of the size of GTA4...though I guess that's what it was meant to be, more an expansion pack?

Since I currently have the double pack with "Ballad of Gay Tony" here, I started playing that, and thus far I'm enjoying it quite a bit more...bit more back to roots in the GTA sense I find...

GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony
IMO much better than TLOTD...more challenging missions, better storyline and characters, and a much more acceptable length...and THEN a bunch of random missions to complete after the story is done.
If you haven't DL'd it yet, the double pack with both of the GTA4 DLCs is well worth it.
Also, in this one I found the most likeable main character since Vice City, and one of the side characters (Yusef) is maybe the funniest character ever in a GTA.

Just stayed up finishing Heavy Rain. DAMN what a good game. Well, more of an interactive movie than your usual video game, but still - Incredibly engaging, I simply couldn't put the controller down. My huge complaint about it is that you can't manually save it, which makes it difficult to go back just to see what would have happened had you made different choices. The game doesn't have much replayability either, so I'm frustrated that I couldn't see the different "choice" scenarios play out. Regardless, it's a great "thriller"/mystery game. Highly recommended.

Liked the constant change of scenery. And the mannequins in the hotel.

What i didn't like was the lack of horror in many of the chapters. The same way i felt about "Fear 1&2" and "Bioshock". More action than horror.

I prefer the "silent hill"/"fatal frame" style in horror games.

Far Cry 2 last night.

Personally, I preferred 1. All the continuous driving through Africa's countrysides made the game pretty repetitive. (Get to bus station, drive out, encounter with patrols, fight and rob...again and again and again, etc.)

The missions were a challenge though, pretty tough to beat. And a great ending to boot.

The Dunia engine used for this game was fantastic. Some jaw-dropping shots of the sun rising and setting over the horizon had me in absolute awe.

Damn malaria...

Yeh I know what you are saying, Cheebs. The first one had a great storyline and combined plenty of horror elements with fast-paced action (ala Return to Castle Wolfenstein). That's one main thing 2 lacked.

TBH it just didn't feel like a sequel. You could name it anything else and it would be just that - another Delta Force-like action game, with a big nod to the current state of affairs in African countries. Action gamers might have loved 2 but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

That's a shame you guys were disappointed with the second game. I've been looking forward to picking it up because I loved the first one so much.
That's the problem most fans of the first had with it - FC2 is in no way related to, or anything like, the first one. They're both FPS games, they're both in a relatively open world, but while the first one is action/horror/scifi, the second is simply a military shooter with nothing weird or unusual about it...personally I don't even think they SHOULD have called it Far Cry 2 as it's no kind of sequel at all, and the gameplay is vastly different.
Maybe check it out on youtube before you bother picking it up, if it's not too late already...
I've heard more people relating to "Crysis" as a more similar game to the original FC.

I just finished "Enslaved - Odyssey to the West".
Despite a few minor issues, and the fact it's a relatively structured and linear game, I found it great fun, enjoyed the graphics and scenery, the action was ok, the storyline good, and the boss fights were really well done.
I would hope for a sequel...

Dead Space - Loved it ! Really creepy settings, and the Necromorphs are great enemies. The weapons were really good to use, dismembering the enemy with mining tools rather than just blasting away with guns was great.

Overall interesting enough storyline, the open world "sandbox" feel was great, the swinging and aerial combat is the best I've seen in a spider-man game as yet...Felt the missions were severely lacking in variety, though the boss fights were more often than not quite good.

I go back and forth between whether or not i liked the first or second better. The second has many improvements and the evil/good choices are a lot more balanced but i really liked the guild from the first. If they bring that aspect back, i'll check it out again but i think im pretty much done with these games.

Not as good as Brotherhood and not a lot of new stuff added, but quite good nevertheless.

The story is getting more and more fucked for each new addition of this franchise. We're talking The Matrix.
From what I got out of the outro the next game might be the last. And maybe that's not such a bad idea. I have a feeling we're gonna get a very far out conlcusion with an over the top climax. I'm expecting to see God, E.T. and Napoleon that's what i'm sayin.

Still nr. 1 in smoothest control and movements. "Metal Gear Solid 4" being a very close second.

Ps. A baby actually died in the ending sequence. But still... not enough for a clean 8/10.

Just finished up Fallout: New Vegas. Glad I gave this one a second chance. Think I needed to play Fallout 3 first to get the hang of things. The story wasn't as good but I enjoyed the more complex character interaction and choices of where you could take the game. I still don't take back anything about it being buggy however the game crashed on me 3 times and my character would occasionally get stuck in stupid places. Think I'll come back to this one more than Fallout 3 because there's just more to it.

The best Resident Evil depends on how you see the series. I think Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games ever. As an action horror title it can't be beat. But as a survival horror title which is what Resident Evil started as, then RE4 isn't as good as the original, or the remake, part 2, part 3, or Code Veronica. RE4 starts off as a strong survival horror but once you get to the second and third sections, ammo is no longer a problem.

Yeah, I felt the same way about Dead Space, it was a good sci-fi/horror action game but it wasn't a "survival horror". I had fun with it though... it just wasn't System Shock.

I just beat Splinter Cell: Conviction. Shot game but the co-op story they added is a bonus for sure. The controls are a little wonky but I feel the same way about Batman AC too (AA I had no issues with though).

Yeah I haven't even bothered with #4 or #5. I just hate that perspective...and while I can see that they look like decent games, they have very much abandoned most of what I knew and loved about the RE games, just throwing a few existing characters into the mix.
They changed the "look" successfully with Code Veronica and RE:0, yet they still felt like part of the series...for me, the newer ones have not.

Personally, I love the whole Resident Evil series, but I felt that it was part 4 that really brought the games into a new direction. I also enjoyed 5, but felt that really, it was just riding the success of 4 and infusing it with better graphics and some new characters. I've seen the previews for the new R.E. that's coming out this month, and I'll admit: I'm impressed. The gameplay looks pretty intense, sort of a combination of GEARS OF WAR meets RESIDENT EVIL. Plus, I'm excited to play as Leon again -- I thought he made a great lead character, and he looks badass as hell in this new game. :)

"Silent Hill: Downpour" PS3 7-8/10

Tho it wasn't as good as the former "homecoming" i still enjoyed this game a lot. I was glad to see they'd kept the improved gameplay and combat movements.

What i wasn't as happy about was the mess of a map system. I never managed to find half of what was possible in the town, coz the map(s) were so confusing. I'm sure i missed out on a lot of fun coz i couldn't figure out where to go or where to look and because most of the foggy town looked the same.
And i'm not too sure an auto-save system works for a game like this. I never fired a single shot or used a lot of medi kits coz i never knew if a monster boss would turn up right ahead. Neither would the gamer know which door he would open that would change the story and take him to the next stage. That toatlly sucks when you can't save yourself.

Okay, now to the good things.

Where Homecoming was like a blend between Silent Hill and "Hostel" this version was a mix between Silent Hill and the asian horror/fantasy movie "Re-cycle". I really appreciated the total mindfucks it played on the gamer and the crazy surreal and horriffic second dimension.
The creator had certainly taken this a notch or two up in this edition. Some of the escapes from this dimension was seriously intense. One of the absolute highlights for me was the rollercoaster ride in the mines. Those miners coming to life... creeeepy. :D

There might've been less creepy atmoshphere than in some of the former games and i would be lying if i said there were a lot of different monsters in this one. But for me, i would've enjoyed it just as much, if not more, without a single monster at all. The best scenes in Downpour was the ones without any monsters anyway. :)

"Hunted - The Demons Forge".
I like the effort they put into the storyline of this one, even though it wasn't really all that groundbreaking.
A nice enough looking game, though pretty rough around the edges.
I enjoyed playing it though. The start was a bit dry but the fun increases as you upgrade your character/skills.
This game felt like it was absent an inventory and a trading/shop system.

I feel like while it was a good game with a decent to playthrough - it wasn't a really great game, it was fun but it just felt a bit like there could've been more to it. More variety in enemies and combat would've been a nice touch.
Levels were also pretty linear.
This is a good backburner game, for when you've got nothing else in particular to play - you'll get through it, and not hate it.

Running around a city, throwing jarred farts, and beating people with a giant purple dildo is really fun if you're a twelve-year-old at heart :D

State of Decay, I can't wait to see what this dev comes out with when it brings a full retail game to the table because this $20 xbox live arcade game is one of the best zombie games I've played. The story is ok and there's some repetition if you try and complete all the objectives and get all the achievements but I expect that with open world games. I don't remember how many balloons I rescued in Spiderman 2.

Interesting concept in this one is leveling up your cardio, fighting, shooting, etc... and if you die your character is gone. You move on to another survivor and maybe get a chance to rescue some of the stuff your dead mate had on him or her. So be careful about sticking to one or two characters too much because if they die, get hurt, get sick, or just get too tired with no coffee or amphetamines to keep them going you will be stuck with fresh meat. Anyway, I think I ended up with 16 survivors after letting two die for achievements (stupid to have to do that...) which was plenty for me. Your resources are also finite, there's only so many cars in the city and you better do some scavenging because you won't be getting more ammo from the gun store once you clean it out. Good stuff.

I recommend this one, it can be buggy and the dialogue isn't great but the gameplay more than makes up for it. It really does include quite a few things I've been looking for in a zombie game for YEARS but haven't seen in the likes of your Dead Risings and Left 4 Deads.

"Metro: Last Light" Ps3 8/10

Way too short for such an expensive game and had a few frustrating parts where i had no idea where i was supposed to go and/or what i was supposed to do. Otherwise it was a great ride.

If it'd been a sandbox game i'd probably have given it a 10/10.

Halo 4.

I'm not a fan of Halo as a series to be honest...I played the first one about 3 years after its release and while know it may have been a little dated in gaming terms I personally didn't really see what all the fuss was.
It seemed a pretty generic shooter with a sci-fi skin.

I had a look at the second game in the series and decided against playing on because I thought it seemed astoundingly similar to the first and didn't seem to have moved on.

Never saw the third, the top-down strategy game (not really part of the series in my mind) or ODST - Though I thought ODST actually looked pretty good, so I may give that a go.

The next one I turned on was "REACH" which I played around with for about 15 minutes then switched off, it bored the hell out of me.

So I acknowledge the series has some die-hard fans, and I'm sure that it's probably that I haven't given everything that much of a chance but I'm a pretty impatient gamer these days, so that could be it.

I got Halo 4 from a friend. Heard it was something of a new start on the series.
It gave me enough information in the intro to have an idea of what was up.
It started out exciting. It looked a shitload better than any other HALO game I'd seen. I don't know from experience if they changed the tone and style of play that much (new 343 guys) but I enjoyed it.

At first I thought I was just going to have a look and blow it off like I had every other HALO game but this one actually sucked me in.
The storyline was cool, I like the friendship (?more?) between the chief and his AI...things evolved there in what I thought was a really great backstory/history of where humanity had gone, the voice acting was rock solid, and the FMV sequences were amazing.

The game itself is sharp and crisp, you move around in a smoothe and comfortable manner which to me is important in an FPS.
The combat feels arcadey in a way but that just "fits" somehow, allowing some high intensity and fast paced gun battles.
The maps are serviceable with a lot of cover to work with, and the use/?introduction of? the secondary functions like the sentry and the hard light shield allowed for some varied approaches to gameplay.

I liked the environments, and at no point did I feel like I'd spent "too long" in the one kind of area, in fact I even appreciated the desert scenes which I'd normally find bland and boring.

The only let-downs were a slight glitch that needed a level to be replayed a couple of times ("board the covenant ship", anyone?) to proceed, and in all honesty the vehicles...they're alright...just not really my thing in an FPS...though you don't *have to* use them most of the time, and even if you did it was fairly sparingly peppered throughout the game.

So yeah overall I liked this game, I don't know how differently these 343 guys do things from Bungee but they made me like the series and anticipate the next one.
Overall I'd give it a 7.75 out of 10.
Play it if you're looking for a user-friendly, solid sci-fi experience laced into a VERY shiny looking game.

Great charaters and character developement and terreffic voice acting was the key ingredient.

Gonna have to check out the second one.
I found elements of the storyline were done a little better in #2, though the fact that the game is pretty much a carbon copy with some new enemies...kind've made it a lot less memorable.

I just finished "Spec ops - the line".
Re-opened my last saves to finish it with all the endings...though this whole multiple ending trend is getting to piss me off in all honesty.

I mean in cases like where there's one or two possible outcomes depending on your actions THROUGHOUT the game, fine - but I do not want to have to reload usually the last scene of a game just to see what'll happen if I did something a little differently right at the end.
That and, I don't need 5 or more fucking endings...

Anyways the game was excellent.
Great atmosphere good level of tension, and the dialogue and storyline were both among some of the best of this genre.
The combat is fairly standard CBS affair, though it's user friendly and the gunfights provide challenge and fun...I did die a lot, but the checkpoints are littered in a pretty fair way.
It's an unusual game/storyline, there's some subject matter here I've never really seen delved into in a game before. Pretty raw stuff too, like I was kind've shocked by some of it...though it only goes towards the overall tone of the game.
I enjoyed this one a lot. I think I'd actually give it 9/10.

The "remake" of Chronicles of Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay, that came with Assault on Dark Athena...have played neither title prior.

EFBB was pretty decent for what it was, for something based on/around a movie series, actually did a lot better than most.
My only real issue is the length. Pretty short.
I hate sneaking around in games, but those that like it will probably be cool with that. A nice mixture of playing styles, and a pretty interesting environment throughout the game. Bit linear but hey.
Good music, ok atmosphere, voice acting was well...yeah, not bad.
It felt true to the universe, and serves as a pretty good prequel to Pitch Black.

The less challenging the more fun it was for me, so the last half was definitely the best, as my knight was pretty damn strong at that point. Dying Light. I dunno. The climbing/heights really fucked with my stress level. Intense, so good except....you had to do it a lot. My fear of heights kept me in hell finishing those parts, but I got annoyed, not because of the stress, but because it was over used. Parkour is great as long as its not obviously created just for parkour. Takes the required suspension of disbelief out. Then there's the sexism as usual, but that's sort of a given with most games. The lack of replayability is also annoying. I'd wait until its 20 bucks or so.

Very good and unpredictable horror story that borrows from serveral, very different horror movies.

Don't have a lot of bad criticism, except that it would have been great if all the colorful characters had equal amount of screen time and equal chance of survival. Sadly, that was not the case. Maybe it will be in the sequal. All fingers crossed. Also I would like to say, that despite the awsome twist in the middle, the first half was a little better than the last. It might have something to do with my first criticism above.

Highly recommended.

Fallout 4

The narrative in this Fallout game really lagged behind the others. They tried to force empathy which led me to apathy by the time I got far enough for the big reveal and there was no emotional attachment to any of the factions for me. I loved the game, don't get me wrong, but when you disconnect the player from the story with a lack of real choice and macguffins everywhere I get a little out of it. Luckily for F4 there were plenty of great side quests including one that had more emotional impact and intrigue for me than the main story! Anyway, good stuff, interested in seeing where the DLC goes...

"Layers of Fear" PS4 8/10

Definitely a good horror game with a great atmosphere and LOTS of creativity. But where Layers of Fear wins on its horror elements (and there are many) I feel "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" is the better experience all in all, as it has 1 strong point Layers of Fear doesn't have, and that's versatility. Coz somewhere halfway through the 5+ hours gameplay, walking around the ever changing mansion gets a bit repetitive even though the halways and rooms keeps changing it's still just halways and rooms you walk around in.

Why "Layers of Fear" doesn't get a lower rating than "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" tho, is due to it's replay value, which is quite high as the mansion leaves you with many posibilities, like which hallway should you chose and which door should you go through, coz lots of times you only get to chose 1 and then the house changes, leaving you curious to what you might have missed. There's also clues and pictures to the mystery which can be found around the house. If you chose a second playthrough you get to start with all the clues and pictures you gathered during your first try.
When you're finished with the first playthrough of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter you've done everything there is to be done and experienced everything there is to be experienced and you can put the game away for good.

Holy hell that was a lot of drivel. Sorry about that.

I always loved this game as a kid...just stood out as a really solid platformer.
Of course, in those days the Disney titles were pretty much gold for accessibility, fun, and just ticked all the boxes a good platformer of that time should.

If you've played 1-3 it's pretty much more of the same, so if those are engaging enough #4 is.

Personally I think the mistake of the game is that it felt the need to compete and do the "open world" a bit more itself. Essentially all this lead to was landscapes full of not much, a little confusion about where to go, and delay between "real" stages.
Also, a couple of the puzzles were just...too damn long...

Personally I think UC 4 had some amazing scenes - the motorcycle/car chase was intense. The dialogue and storyline was on par with the rest. Music was great. The combat and enemy AI was improved yet again.
Some stuff from the past, some stuff from the future, a couple new characters thrown in the mix.
I liked it. Maybe not as much as UC2, still my favourite, but I thought it was at least equal with #3.

Do you mean the lack of a real combat system etc?
They improve that with every game. The hand to hand, the gunplay, even just how the character moves around.

I'd really recommend UC2 for the storyline, the villain (the best IMO), the scenery.
I think you'd be missing out on something great if you skip straight to four...not to mention there *is* an amount of backwards referencing etc - not to mention UC4 really does pay off for the legacy players.

You can buy 1-3 remastered on the PS4 quite cheaply.

Angra is right though, the open world stuff is minimal. It's more just to show off the games looks. It's somewhat linear. If that's all you want to check it out for, you will be disappointed.

"Hellblade" 8/10

Pros:

1. Stunning graphics and amazing sound. Headphones are a must.

2. The price. $30 is really cheap for a product that looks a helluva lot like a tripple A game.

3. Lots of very intense moments.

4. Hellblade is a game you will remember a long time after 2017 has ended.

Cons.

1. Autosave. The fact that you can't save manually makes this quite a stressfull experience, as you can only fail a limited number of times before the game starts over and deletes your save files. Or so you are being told the first time you die.

2. The puzzles. Pretty repetitive and some of them frustratingly hard to figure out.

3. The battles. Again, very repetitive and stressful when you're up against two foes or more. And yes, I suck at it!!

3. The main characters constantly open mouth. A minor issue of mine.

4. The main characters voice and person as a whole annoyed me.

5. And worst of all, which might just be in my case. Game bugs. After the first couple of hours of gameplay I managed to fall through the ground and just kept falling and falling, so I went to the main menu and started the stage all over only to find I couldn't start the puzzle again that would lead me to the next stage. This wouldn't have been a big issue if it hadn't been for the freakin autosave. So I ended up having to start the game all over again. Many hours later on I stumbled upon the same kind of bug that had me falling under ground again and I was almost shitting my pants. But luckily this time the game let me continue with the puzzle when I restarted the stage.

So is Hellblade worth the money? Hell yes. Definitely.::wink::

The first three "Arkham" titles.
I got over my hatred of the off-centre character (which did improve slightly throughout the series anyway) to play through these. I still don't like this particular perspective.

Good music. Solid voice acting. Decent scale. Perhaps a bit too Joker-centric?
All in all they respected their source material while making a slightly different version of the Gotham I know.
Combat was maybe...a little simplistic? I feel like I had the same fight 50,000 times.
The last game changed up their enemy types a bit more I suppose.

Overall I found Arkham City was the most balanced of the lot.

As a series I'd say 7/10.
I guess I'd have liked to have seen some kind of grander/grittier boss fights - again, Arkham City brought this more than the others.
I mean shit...this last one...you didn't even get the chance to have a real fight with Deathstroke, what a missed opportunity. The hand to hand fights with "boss" characters were sorely missing.
Ra's al Ghul was probably about as good as it got.

One thing that did piss me off?
The riddler shit.
Everyone loves a side quest, but come on.
Too much with the hidden question marks...I mainly overlooked them until the third game where I decided to have a go, did enough challenges to free catwoman for the storyline, but then the whole "to fight me you'll have to collect all my trophies" bit.
I did it for a while and became BORED after about 60 of them.
Looked like there was somewhere near 300.
There's WAY too many of them...so yeah I had to see the "real" ending on youtube.

For me this kind of grinding isn't something you should have to do in order to see the full ending...I mean, it had nothing to do with Riddler so who cares?
Anyways, annoyance.
Side quests are good. Ones like this wear thin very fast.

I have "Arkham Origins" installing on steam now.
Not sure what to expect, but yeah...looks a bit different.

I played a demo or a bit of one of them and thought the same thing. I still want to set aside time and play the series though. It seems to be very popular even though I'm not crazy about the design of some of the characters. Prime 1 Studio has a line of all the characters at I think 1/3 scale and very high prices.
