I always though Sage Rosenfels was a better than average QB... he just doesn't get to play.

Ronnie Brown is a good back and he's just going to get better not to mention he can catch and block something Ricky isn't to great at.
They've got a tight end, reciever, running back, couple of good lineman and still a pretty good defense which Saban is going to make better. So why not trade him and have two first round picks next year to throw in a couple more building block.

I just read in the paper(don't know how credible it is)that the Jets are trying to trade for Lavar Arrington. That would be cool to have him,Vilma and Hawk on the field at the same time but again don't know how credible or likely it is.

Draft picks,Arrington's stock has really dropped with the Skins for some reason(maybe off the field stuff, with him not being to high profile I could see how it could be kept behind closed doors) so he could go for a 3rd and a player.

Any player's stock will drop if you forcably keep him off the field. Arrington would be a star on any other team.

They say Bruschi may be out until after the first rd playoffs or more? All this hype about these first rd picks these days there nothing but hype taking nothing away from bush but most of them are. Oh Yea. Michal Vick is OVER RATED :D look for Bush to goto the J.E.T.S SUX SUX SUX. Curtis martin may not be a jet. You call htem NY jets, i call them NJ jets :D Since almost everybody saying that Alexzander should be mvp well he should and brady they did had two season mvp not to long ago and they could do it again. If the patriots beat the Jags and then beat the steelers (no bangles) they would have a better chanse beating the colts, even if it's not home field. if bruschi and there Cb get better and play better.

Cancel that, I just got this morning's paper and checked the same section to see if there'd be anymore on it and it seems that it was a fan commentary section. The Jets are looking over the trading block but as far as the Arrington deal it's nothing more than a rumor with low credibility.

Random entry...
I don't like all this talk about Alexander being a lock, Manning should be the MVP. He's having a better season than he did when he won the MVP in '03 and the team is better. Don't get me wrong Alexander,Brady and Barber are having great seasons but the Colts are the best team in the league and if they didn't have Manning they wouldn't be, it's as simple as that. It's just like when Favre won the three straight, he was the best and the Packers wouldn't have been nearly as good without him.
ItsAlive75
12-29-2005, 05:25 PM
Lovie's a lock for coach of da year... I think he's a lock.... nah he's a lock.
And Manning's a much more suitable pick for MVP.

I also don't like how everybody that wins Coach of the Year is on a team who was bad the year before. Just because your team was supposed to be good doesn't mean you didn't do your job well.
Having said that I think it's Lovie or Dungy for sure, nobody else should even be considered. 13-0 and horrible to division champs and the best D in the league.

True, but pulling a piss-poor team out of the mud and making them perform is still a pretty big feat. Scott Skiles did it with the Bulls...
Actually I just realized, Scott Skiles won CotY with the Bulls, Ozzie Guillen won CotY with the Sox, if Lovie won it with the Bears that'd be a nice ego-boost for Chicago.

Inexperience...A bunch of guys who for the most part were Freshman and Sophmores last year and got little playing time, you put that together with a new head coach who changed the offense and you're going to have an up and down year but Saban's still intact defense kept them in and/or dominated every game.
I'm interested in what's going to happen in '07 when Saban's fingerprints are all but gone.

Makes no sense, you know he isn't going to be there next year so there's no reason to take a look at him. They've got a 4th overall draft pick who's been sitting for 2 years behind what's turned out to be a great QB in Brees and one of the best coaches in history...that's trade gold. Now every team that's interested in him is watching every movement he makes which so far haven't been to good.

Well, IF this is Brett's last game I(and I'm sure alot of other people) would like it to be a win, so it might not count for anything but a win at Lambeau is the right way for him to go.

Well that's just what he got... so if him winning his last game at Lambeau is what its gonna take for me to never see his face on a football field again, I'll allow it... cuz y'know, I have some sort of power of it.

Got the last 12 minutes of the Saints-Buccs, they played hard but gonna lose...story of the entire season. However, if the Texans win today we get the first pick in the draft and it looks like Haslett's gonna stay on and Duece is coming back so next season is promising as each of the last 6 only question is will it end like the last 6.

I'm with MajorBludd here. Young just won the National Championship, what's left for him to accomplish? He should go pro right now.
Look at Leinart. He shoulda went pro last year and he woulda been almost a lock to go in the top 2 picks. Not so any more. Top 5 now, but not top 2. I think his decision to play that extra year in college ended up costing him some of the big money he coulda got had he entered the draft last year.
AUSTIN316426808
01-05-2006, 10:17 PM
I disagree, stay in college under a great coach, step his passing up a bit more and win the Heisman.
I don't know if any of you guys saw the Heisman presentation but he was pissed that he didn't win and he wants that trophy, yeah he won a national championship but a Heisman trophy is just as big of an accomplishment.
If he stays I don't think there's any question that he'll win the Heisman and he'll probably be the first pick in the draft because he wont this year.
Leinart is still going in the top three, he won 34 straight games,a Heisman trophy and a national championship. That doesn't just go away after one game that he did very good in by the way. 6-5,225 pounds, durable, big arm, ridiculously accurate...that's what coaches and gms are looking at, not one half where he was thrown off by a good pash rush.
Bush,Leinart.....there's your top 2 unless the Texans trade out to take Furgueson but with a new coach coming in I doubt that'll happen.

Saints have the second pick in the draft and assuming Young comes out he and Leinart are the top 2 QBs, they aren't going to take a copy of Brooks(why they're getting rid of him in the first place is a complete and utter fucking mystery) so that leaves Leinart.

Dude Brooks sucks! If I were you I'd be thrilled to be getting rid of him! His inconsistency is a big part of the Saints rough year (That, and that Hurricane Katrina thing taking away all their home games.)
Like I said, I don't agree on Leinart going that early. Alot can happen between now and draft day and who knows if the Saints will even still have #2 pick?

Statistics don't lie, since 2000 he's been one of the top QBs in the league.
As for the draft pick unless you're talking about the Saints trading the pick they'll have it. All the pick positions of the non playoff teams are locked. I heavily doubt they'll trade the pick away and if they don't they're taking a QB.
Never understand how people can look at these bowl games and throw out everything a guys done not to mention he had a good game.

I didn't even watch the Bowl game. I'm just saying his stock would have been higher had he entered the draft year as opposed to this year. I think he woulda got paid better too.
Brooks a top QB? He hasn't even had a decent year since 2003 and even then, I'd put him around the bottom of the Top 10 QBs.
Brooks hasn't ever really looked impressive to me, but after you said he was one of the QBs, I looked up his numbers from the last couple years.... Nope, still not impressive.
2005 - 13 games played, 13 TDs, 17 INTs, 222 yards/game, QB Rating of 70.0
Nothing spectacular there...
2004 - 16 games played, 21 TDs, 16 INTs, 238 yards/game, QB Rating of 79.5
Better than '05, but still pretty run of the mill numbers here...
Leinart or Young would be a step up for sure.

No respect?...if anything they got too much respect for a team that was nothing short of a pathetic shell of their old self the first half of the season.

They were never asleep, when Kitna came in for Palmer they got a different offense than they were ready for, after they made their adjustments that was it.

Nope. You saw Kitna, once the second half rolled around the Steelers had completely adapted to the scheme. Kitna was forced to make awkward throws and they couldn't run the ball, then Kitna got noticably rattled.
I think with Palmer in, stronger arm, more familiar with the offense, Bengals win. Hell, even the play he got injured on was completed.

Dam I missed the Steelers game, I thought it was on 8pm. I seen the Giants getting there ass kicked today. That game was qick shit. :D Taking nothing away from Denver but it still might be again Colts & Patriots for AFC, If they make it. Which I think the pats will there #1 on rusg defense I think. The pass still has problems, but they did to well angiest the jags WR's. they where bigger and taller than the pats cb's. The steelers where lucky that the Cinni- was sleep later on. They better not do that when they face the colts. The patriots has to strike qick and not drop or miss passes plus dillion has to start getting some yards in. The Patriots & Broncos are on Sat (I think)

Random entry....
Just saw that the Titans have the 3rd pick in the draft so now I'm convinced.....Bush,Leinart,Young.
-Even if the Texans trade out to the Jets Bush will go first. Curtis Martin injured his leg and had season ending surgery not to mention he's not getting any younger.
-The Saints have cut ties to inconsistent Aaron Brooks and what's more consistent than leading a 34 game winning streak on one of the best offenses in the history of college football.
-McNair has finally reached the point where he just can't finish a season but will probably return for another and who better for him to mentor into his place than...well...him. A year on the bench behind a veteran QB with playoff expierence and an MVP under his belt could only help Young's unlimited potential.
To finish off the top 5...
-Jets lost Kareem McKenzie to free agency and their passing game went to hell so they'll go with D‘Brickashaw Ferguson who'll take care of the left side for the next decade.
-Tamba Hali or Mario Williams could go at 5 to the Packers, their young secondary suffered this year mainly do to lack of a decent pass rush. Imo opinion it's a toss up between the two.

True, just remember. Last time they met it was 28-20 Broncos, and the Pats were missing 7 starters. I still agree, and I still think the Broncos win, but this is gonna be a completely new game.

I didn't think about the injuries and when you add on the experience level of the two teams it almost throws all favor to the Pats. I'm still going with the Broncos though, I think as long as Jake,Williams and Fox(don't remember his full name) don't spaz under playoff pressure they'll be fine.
Plummer has playoff experience and he beat the mid 90s Cowboys with a far less talented team so I think he'll be cool.

POINT 1:Home teams always get away with more... Jones' dive to the endzone for one. Luckily that facemask helped out.
But I hope somebody runs Steve Smith over with a truck.
POINT 2: Why the shit did Pitt run it with a minute + left in the game? Waste the Colts' timeouts, kick a fieldgoal, let your D stop Manning.

i tell you what....the nfl is almost like a video game....if one team gets a fumble recovery, eventually the other gets one.....ever since the tom brady "tuck rule" against oakland in the snow, shit seems sorta trivial....and i cant stomach this "football move" that a receiver needs to make to complete a reception....or even if a guy catches a ball diving out of the endzone and has complete control of the ball tucks it and lands on it.....THERES JUST TOO MUCH GREY AREA, AND RULES BEING INTERPRETED......its too much to put on a refs shoulders, i like the idea behind challenges, but i think they need to scrap instant replay altogether.....it seems like the difference between a win and a loss in these playoff games can be decided by a big turnover...or a big play....its like a wins not a win unless you convincingly kick another teams ass.....see pit vs indy, friggin asswhooping that almost went to overtime(where im sure indy woulda won)and a horrible call led to that possibility.
AUSTIN316426808
01-17-2006, 01:07 AM
The tuck rule is in the rule book, a ref can't just make up any call he wants. The reason officials get tighter and you may here some rules or see some calls you haven't heard or seen made around playoff time is because it's the fucking playoffs to decide who's going to play in the Super Bowl to become the champions. When something goes down they look at it very carefully, and examine the rules to make sure they make the right call which is what they do about 98% of the time, nobody's perfect so naturally they're going to miss a couple. Same goes for the football move, it's a rule which has to be enforced.
Catches don't have that much grey area....both feet down, ball isn't moving and/or if the reciever is forced out of the endzone then it's a touchdown. Don't have both feet down, balls moving, ball is knocked loose before possession is established and held for 2 seconds and/or 2 steps(which is now know as a football move) then there's no catch.
Of course games can be decided by a big turnover or big play, that's part of the game. This is the playoffs every team in them is good if not great, the games are expected to be good/close and sometimes watching NFL live,Sportscenter or pre-game shows ect. You even here alot that a game may come down do turnovers and who takes care of the ball more. It doesn't mean that you didn't win convincingly or you didn't prove yourself(or however you want to say it), it just means that one particular team played hard and cause the turnover or big play, that's what you do on defense...try and shut the offense down and if possible create a turnover and on offense....try your best to put points on the board. Big turnovers are the result of a hard working defense and big plays are the results of a hard working offense/special tems unit, it's a part of the game.
Another comment about this statement "its like a wins not a win unless you convincingly kick another teams ass"....
Games not over until it's over.... over doesn't mean when one team has played better, over doesn't mean a team has a 2,3 or however many touchdown lead, over means the clock reads 0:00. If a team can't close than it's their problem, why do you think the Chargers aren't in the playoffs? cause they couldn't close out games early and midway through the season. If a team dominates the entire game and loses it in the last minutes then they deserved to lose because it mean they either layed back and got content and/or just didn't want it enough to close it out.
"friggin asswhooping that almost went to overtime(where im sure indy woulda won)and a horrible call led to that possibility"
Like I said if a team can't close that's their problem, so had it gone into overtime and resulted in a Colts victory after Steeler dominance through 3 and a half quarters then the Steelers would've deserved to lose. As for the call I've said it twice already but here's goes one more time...The series before that Faneca moved on 4th and inches and wasn't called for it, that play would've made it 4th and 5 or 6. Bill Cowher IS NOT going for it on 4th and 5, they would've punted back to the Colts who's offense was up and running(which is why Cowher decided to go on 4th and inches in the first place) with an additional 3 minutes or so left on the clock. That was a much bigger play than the ''interception''.

01-17-2006, 02:12 AM
The refs were on Indy's side and it was fuckin' obvious. I'm glad Porter called them out on it because they were trying their damnedest to hand the game over to Indy in the 4th quarter there.
After seeing the refs try to hand the game to Indy, I was thrilled when Pittsburgh hung on to win.
Austin - The NFL ackowledged the terrible call on the Palamaulo (sp?) interception, but they didn't say anything else about any other missed calls. To me, that tells me this one stood out as far and away the worst, most blatant one.
Notice I said, the NFL 'acknowledged' and not 'apologized', like they should of.
P.S. - Pete Morelli is either on the Colts payroll or he's incompetent. Either way, he should get fired.
majorbludd
01-17-2006, 09:49 AM
the faneca non call was huge.....however in live real time it wasnt blatant that the guard moved, we did however see more than 1 colt cross the line of scrimmage and make contact with the offense....and everything you say is pretty accurate,(austin) however...lets forget about the bettis fumble in the end....subtract those 8 pts the colts scored on that drive and give palmolive the pick....it's so deflating for the colts whose offense was on the bench for so long....footballs a very emotional game, we as fans get crazy in our homes or our local bars, but imagine whats goin through the heads and hearts of these players....the rules are the rules....and i can bet a flag could be thrown on every play if they wanted to.....in real speed watching an entire offensive line for holding and hands to the face,etc...may be down right impossible.... but momentum is everything, and when you're on your hometurf.....things will go your way. and sometimes, but not usually in the 4th quarter with 3/4 mins left against you.....that being said, as a fan, and my team didn't make the playoffs, and im not an indy hater by any stretch....although my franchise was relieved to see them not go undefeated......i wouldve put an asterisk in my own memory bank next to a win for the colts if they had prevailed in overtime.....the game sorta reminded me of the rams/pats superbowl a few years ago....pats stymied those guys for 3 quarters then they woke....i remember feelin' the same then...if that super bowl went to ot the rams wouldve been victorious having had MOMENTUM the last 15 mins of regulation, only that game if i remember didn't necessitate a ridiculous call to get stlouis going.
i guess im a meathead, and like al bundy i had a successful high school football career but opted for a party school when it came to college so i could watch b horror movies and eat mushrooms, but todays nfl and im sure this bodes trues for yesteryear as well, human error exists and the refs do there best to call a fair contest, but after being under the hood for 10 minutes in this stupid fuckin' dome not to get a call right, that a fuckin widower with glaucoma in his rocking chair watching the game on his 13 inch tv acknowledges even before he gets a replay is utter dogshit.....and another thing....totally unrelated what ever happened to the ground cant cause a fumble?

You've mentioned the Bettis fumble and the interception again but the Faneca no call is still the biggest play because unlike all the other incidents that's the only one that took time off the clock.
Personally I see it has even, refs messed up ran valuable time off the clock when the Colts were supposed to get the ball back with. On the other hand the refs messed up a call for the Steelers that was potentially game ending. Steelers caught a huge break,Colts caught a huge break.
And you're right, when you're at home things will go your way more that's why everybody want's homefield in the playoffs and that's why during the season 9 out of 10 times the home team is the favorite. Early timeouts, false starts,a call here and there, momentum from the crowd...all of those things are completely expected to happen only in this case, some in the past and undoubtly still to come in the future a couple big calls were screwed up.
I know how important momentum is and like I said before, game's over when the clock reads 0:00. You don't just play well for 15,30,45 or 59 minutes, you have to play well the entire game. I don't care who's home and away, how good or bad the teams are, if you're winning with an even minute left and you somehow end up on the losing end unless the refs are making bad call after bad call(see that I'm saying bad calls and not just calls because if a team is moved down the field for the most part due to sloppy play by the other team than that's their fault.) you deserve to lose because you didn't want it more.
I'm well aware that football is emotional, well aware of the importance of momentum and well aware of what goes through their heart and mind. The only way something can deflate you is if you let it.

Who's going to the Super Bowl?
Seahawks - Panthers
'Hawks- Better offense, 9-0 at home(counting a playoff W).
Panthers- Better defense, 4-0 on the road in the playoffs under Fox and Delhomme.
Broncos - Steelers
Very close matchup, speed vs. power.
Both are top 5 in rushing(Den. #2,Pitt. #5), both are top 5 against the rush(Den. #2,Pitt. #3).
Broncos have homefield, Steelers have won 2 on the road.
They both just knocked off the 2 teams nobody wanted to face in the playoffs.
Broncos have the best corner in the league, Steelers have the best safety in the league.(you can make a case for Ed Reed who creates turnovers and is great in coverage or Bob Sanders who's the faster of the three, is great in run support and hits like a truck. But Polamaulu is the total package...great in both coverage and run support, makes his share of big plays and also has the bonus of being a pretty good pass rusher as well.)
The Broncos have Al Wilson and DJ Williams, 2/3 of the fastest linebacking corp in the league...Steelers have Joey Porter and James Farrior, 2/3(sometimes 2/4) of the best blitzing linebacking corp in the league.
I could go on but you get the point, it's an even match with two different styles.
My picks- Broncos/Panthers.

He's going to play badly because he's OLD AND HIS LEGS DON'T WORK ANYMORE! Look at the guy in practice or after games, he looks like he wants to commit suicide.

His feet are still quick and he still bounces off tackles. He was hurt about a quarter of a season and the season after the same injury was still hanging around so he split time early in the year until ultimately sitting the rest out. So he was injured in one specific place but it allowed the rest of his body to get a break from the 10+ straight seasons.
When he fully came back from that injury he got 900 yards splitting time with two other backs which is pretty damn good, just like when Jamal Lewis went out in training camp with the leg then came back the next season and racked up 2000. Of course Jerome even with the time off was still aged so you wouldn't expect him to get 2000.
At that point in his career I'd say splitting with 1 guy helped him but take away the third(which imo wasn't really needed, but still a good game plan)and he's coming away with about 1300 yards.
Yada yada yada...point is I think he's still a good player and an important part of the offense, although I do agree that he's gone after the Super Bowl win or lose because while he might have some value left it's rapidly declining.

I don't really have a problem with Donovan speaking up. I just don't understand why he waited 'til now, Owens screwed that lockeroom up during the season and that's when Donovan should've stepped up and confronted him.
Don't wait until it doesn't mean a damn thing, he's the leader of the team and should've tried to patch things up. I'm not saying he shoulda got into a fight with him or something of that nature but pull him aside and talk man to man. Him saying something now is just adding fuel to a useless fire.

It was, especially since I took a vacation day so I could stay up and endure it. I'm not sure I can say a whole lot bad about Brooks right now. They might as well just sit the offensive line and just make the D count to 3 Mississippi before they can sack him. 9 sacks in one game, that's just miserable. Truthfully, I've been watching the Raiders since I was 5, and aside from the whole 51-3 beating we took against Buffalo in the AFC championship game one year, I don't think I ever recall seeing my team play so bad.
Of course, I'll stand up and take my medicine because I was giving shit to Packers & Bucs fans all day yesterday. It is, however, a miserable time to be a Raiders fan.

Seriously, I did start to see some good signs on Defence, but our Oline is just awful. I mean, Brooks is a scrambling quarterback and he was still getting killed. They would have made mince meat out of Collins if he was still here.
I didn't want to say anything until I really saw it in action, but Tom Walsh's playcalling looked terrible. Why the hell would you call plays needing 7-10 step drops when your Oline is looking that bad? The few times they threw quick outs to Moss, it worked. Then they just quit and started trying for the long ball again.

I don't have the slightest idea why the guy can't keep a job, sure he's getting old but who cares, he's still good that's what matters. He's one of only 5 active QBs with a ring, guess that doesn't count for anything.
i'm just sorry my cowboys lost - they looked so good in the first quarter and then just fell apart. . . i'd say 'bad coaching' but the TUNA is as good as it gets - let's just hope it gets better as the season goes on

It was just two good, tough teams playing well and somebody had to lose. I wouldn't worry about 'em.

i'd heard JAX was predictec to go pretty far this season. . . that's the thing i hate about football (and really hate about college football) - it seems as if just a few losses and your season is over. . . i guess that's why i'm increasingly a baseball fan

I think it makes the NFL better, true it'll blow a bit when your team(s) are left out but overall the competitiveness makes for good games all season.
The playoffless college system on the other hand is brutal for fans because first and foremost, a run of the mill season has about 8-10 national championship contenders which takes out 100 teams before the first kickoff, and another 10 unless a few unlikely scenerios take place.
I guess it would be easier for fans of the other 3 sports, you've got 80+ games during which, at the very least, you've got hope for about a month or two. With football you can pretty much tell within 2 games if you're team's gonna be crap.
