Dementia 13 ~ first time I watched this one, I enjoyed it. Several really well done scenes, but it did drag in places.
White Zombie ~ this is always fun, one of my favorite, over the top performances by Lugosi.

Not exactly horror, but I watched Kubrick's Killer Kiss last night. I think it was one of his most early movies and he did great in handling the script and the actors. The cinematography and narration are very Kubrick-esque.
Out of the performers, Jamie Smith stood out as the best. A very good movie viewing experience.

That is a great movie. Elsa Lanchester became legendary just for that one role alone.
Last classic I watched was Spooks Run Wild. Not one of Bela's greatest efforts I am afraid. Poor guy looks a bit out of sorts in this one.

as Halloween quickly approaches again, I've been watching more than my usual share of horror films (both old and new) and since the classics are my personal favorites I've been watching them more than most and I began to wonder what my fellow classic fright fans have been watching of late, so here's my list of the films I'm watching today, what are you watching?
1. Dracula (1931) w/ Lugosi
2. Son Of Dracula w/ lon Chaney jr
3 The Ghost Breakers w/ Bob Hope
4. Frankenstein meets The Wolf Man w/Chaney jr & Lugosi
Okay, so this list was posted three years ago -- I totally don't care. I am SO watching Ghost Breakers and Son of Dracula for Halloween!

I also like The Bride Of Frankenstein. I just got a signed photo of Elsa Lanchester as "The Bride". Got it from a reliable dealer since authentic signatures of Lanchester in this character are rare!

The cinema's first vampire Western! Young women in a small Western town are dying one by one of an unknown malady involving massive blood loss. The Carter family's ranch is being terrorized by a ruthless land baron . And a mysterious black-clad gunfighter with an aversion to sunlight has just arrived in town. B-grade western with a twist: mysterious gunslinger-for-hire Drake Robey is really a vampire, and it's up to Preacher Dan to save the town and girlfriend Dolores Carter.

Fall of the House of Usher (1928)
The French silent films of the late twenties have such a wonderfully romantic and surreal feel to them So very different from the expressionism of the Germans or the realism of the Americans and this Jean Epstein classic is one of the very best. An odd interpretation of the Poe story, this film is a marvel of mood and acting. The camera swirls and moves with and all around the actors. Superimposed images and brilliantly soft cinematography blend to create a slow-motion dreamworld. I cannot recommend this one highly enough to fans of silent film. Easily one of my favorites in the genre.

Definitely made me feel oddly melancholy when I saw it when I was younger...

"It Came From Beneth The Sea" (1955)
-Kenneth Tobey
After an encounter at sea with an unknown underwater creature, a naval commander works with two scientists to identify it. The creature they are dealing with is a giant, radioactive octopus that has left its normal feeding grounds in search of new sources of replenishment. As the creature attacks San Francisco, the Navy tries to trap it at the Golden Gate Bridge but it manages to enter the Bar area leading to a final confrontation with a submarine.
One of the fun "Giant Radioactive Monsters On The Loose" movies from the 1950's. Great stop motion FX by Ray Harryhausen. Not quite a classic, but a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Yes, it's a shame that Christopher Lee isn't in the film more - but it still has interesting characters, and I appreciate the angle about the three characters who outwardly portray themselves as decent and moral religious gentlemen, but their self-righteousness hides their double lives, involving a secret interest in embracing cheap thrills and hedonism.

The last of the "serious" Universal horror films. Good performances by the actors, but a standard story. Not a great movie but lots of fun.
"Dracula" (1931-Spanish Edition)
- Carlos Villarias, Lupita Tovar
If your a Dracula fan this is a fascinating film to watch. Made at the same time as the Lugosi film (but at night) and on the same sets with a near identical script.
But this film has a very different feel to it. Villarias has an almost madman look to him when he attacks as opposed to Lugosi's more seductive look and Lupita Tovar is much sexier then Helen Chandler. I won't say it's a better film then Lugosi's (which is one of my all time favorites) but I think it's just as good.

Good, and I appreciate the 'less is more' thing (as opposed to the 90's remake, which was laden with special effects) - but it's certainly not the scariest film ever IMO, as some people claim. It was probably more effective at the time, and without knowing the hype about it beforehand.

The description of this forum, as listed in the index is this:
Horror and monster movies from the 1960's and before.
See that "s" after 1960 means that it includes 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 & 1969. So, using basic rules of English, if read properly there's no "glitch." It's a language comprehension thing.

"The Wolf Man" (1941)
One of the greatest horror films ever made. Terrific story, acting and FX, and one of the greatest transformation's ever put on screen and I don't mean the man to wolf scene, I'm talking about how Larry Talbot went from happy go lucky guy, chasing pretty girls and not having a care in the world and became such a tortured soul by the end of the film. Fine, fine acting from Lon Chaney Jr.
The upcoming remake has a lot to live up too.
This film does have one of the funniest goofs I've ever seen in a movie. (this might be considered a Spoiler so be warned) Theres a scene where Larry Talbot first transforms into the Wolf Man, he runs into his bedroom, he takes off his shirt and he stands there in a undershirt and light colored pants, he sits down takes off his shoes and socks and you watch how his feet change and then he gets up and walks out into the night. When you next see him he is now completely changed into The Wolf Man, but all of a sudden he his now wearing darker pants and a dark long sleeve shirt. I guess even the Wolf Man has a fashion sense.

Just watched this movie starring Ray Corrigan. I wouldnt
really classify it as horror so much as I might call it an
adventure movie but it was included with the 100 Horror Classics DVD collection.
It's a movie about a man who discovers the existence of a legendary white gorilla and a jungle boy while exploring
Africa with his comrades. The White Gorilla is in conflict
with a Black Gorilla as it is considered an outcast for its
albino hair.
The movie is actually quite entertaining despite its use and
re-use of stock footage mostly consisting of what appears to
be footage taken from old nature and wildlife documentaries.
The footage was used advantageously and fit well with the film.
I liked this film, it was fun for its strange zaniness, I felt
the cast of characters and situations were rather unique compared to other ape/gorilla/king kong movies from this era.
It was like a combination of King Kong and Tarzan and Rudyard Kiplings 'Jungle Book'.

Beautifully tragic, macabre, and surprisingly gory (I can only imagine how audiences received it). It's the kind of movie that, the more I think about it, the more I honestly appreciate it as a true classic. The imagery is so sad and stunning, especially the end. A true ground-breaking horror film.
I'm also interested in its US release, The Horror Chamber of Dr. Faustus. I wonder how the original was edited to produce this abomination and marvel at American's need to sensationalize the already sensational.

Human, are you talking about Land of the dead? I figured White Zombie had the more human zombies because they didn't attack or just go after flesh they were trained, which still catagorizes them as zombies. They worked in the mill and even drove the carriage.
The corpse Vanishes is what I watched, another Lugosi movie. That one was alright nothin too special.

The Two Faces of Dr. Jeckyll.
Hammer's take on Jeckyll and Hyde. Quite strange. Chris Lee is in it, but in a secondary role.

"The Ghoul" (1933)
-Boris Karloff
Karloff plays a man who believes in the ancient power of the Egyptian gods, when he dies, he is buried with a valuable jewel, a gift to the God Anubis, the jewel is stolen and Karloff returns to enact his revenge.
Fun British made melodrama. Despite his top billing, Karloff is more of a secondary character and is virtually silent throughout the whole movie.
Not great, but fun.
