What albums have you guys been listening to a lot of latley?: This is what I've been sessioning heaps at the moment:
DYSTOPIA - The Aftermath
http://www.profaneexistence.com/black/Covers5/Dystopia_AfterCDL.jpg
Very deranged album. Definatley my favorite at the moment. If you haven't checked it out before you should.
PROVOKED - Infant In The Womb Of Warfare
http://www.profaneexistence.com/PageMill_Resources/ProvokedLP2.gif
Great hardcore punk with female vocals.
PROVOKED - Prepare For The Cold
http://www.profaneexistence.com/PageMill_Resources/076Provoked2ndLPL.jpg
SEVERED HEAD OF STATE - Anathema Device
http://www.profaneexistence.com/black/Covers3/SeveredCDL.jpg
SCHIFOSI - Ill Winds from Outopia
http://www.profaneexistence.com/black/coversa/SchifosiCDL.jpg
Very cool Australian band. Brutal shit with female vocals. Real impressed with this one at the moment.
and some oldies I always end up thrashin':
MELVINS - Houdini
http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/Sources/AMGCOVERS/music/cover200/drf500/f550/f55012lz627.jpg
MC5 - Back In The USA
http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/Sources/AMGCOVERS/music/cover200/drd600/d601/d60144o1b64.jpg
Almost deserves a thread of its own. I dusted this off the other day and it still kicks my ass. THE rock n roll album in my opinion. "Let Me Try" and "American Ruse" are total fucking classics.
ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS - The Day The Earth Met The Rocket From The Tombs
http://www.hasharat.co.il/images/rocket_the_200.jpg
Very important album to me. Featuring members that went on to form Pere Ubu and Dead Boys (songs by both bands are in their original forms here) this band fucking owns. Anyone into stuff like The Stooges or 1970s NY scene should definatley pick up a copy. It has the most amazing version of "Ain't It Fun" and I recommend everyone check out the songs "So Cold" and "Amphetamine"
HANK WILLIAMS - Cheating Hearts
http://cover6.cduniverse.com/PhantomArt/360436.jpg
It all started here. I think "Long Gone Lonesome Blues" is my all time favorite song.

@Happycamper: I used to listen to The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste a lot. Burning inside is a fuckin classic. I also liked what I've heard of their last album. You should try some Godflesh if you're into industrail. Their album Streetcleaner is still pretty good in my opinon....

It's probably considered more progressive rock. The lead singer has a sort of falsetto voice, but they mix harder riffs with some catchy stuff. The pacing and transitions between songs is great... I'll recommend a listen to Al the Killer or The Light & The Glass to preview the album.

I've always really enjoyed the Sun Sessions stuff by Elvis. Teengenerate and Guitar Wolf are fucking awesome. I saw a Japanese music festival awhile ago on TV that had those guys alongside people like Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop and a few others. I wish I had've taped it there were some mental acts. I was all set to see Guitar Wolf this year but their bass player unfourtunatley died so I think they've called it quits which bums me out cause I missed them the first time they played over here.
What sort of stuff is on your country mixes. I've been listening to a lot of Hank Williams latley and am looking for some more guys to get into. I had a bunch of great 60s garage compilations a while ago there's some awesome music out of that period I love stuff like The Sonics, The Wailers, Mouse and the Traps, Sam The Sham and The Pharohs, and Downliners Sect. Its definatley a period of music that slips under the radar.
I've been listening to these a lot so far this week:
BLUE CHEER - Vincebus Eruptum
http://www.songlyricscollection.com/lyrics/b/blue-cheer/vincebus-eruptum/vincebus-eruptum.jpg
Defintley a underated album. Easily one of my favorite albums of the 60s. These guys do some crazyily heavy noisey shit. They do Summertime Blues better than anyone.
WHITE ZOMBIE - La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1
http://www.monochrom.at/cracked/reviews/C_WhiteZombie.jpg
I used to really dig this album as a teenager and have started sessioning it again. Great horror movie influenced rock n roll! Not really into what Rob Zombie went on to do music wise (loved his film tho and am looking foward to more) but this album is definatley a total fucking classic!

TO Elvis Christ:
nice Dead Moon avatar. very nice. do you like the Rats, or any of their other early bands?
the Sonics are one of my favorite bands of all time.
I had the chance to see Guitar Wolf's last show. the one right before Billy died.
Blue Cheer is amazing. my fave song is "Second Time Around"
some old country greats that I like are:
Hank Snow
Roy Acuff
Kitty Wells
Wanda Jackson
I mainly listen to old country and old garage/punk/rock n roll. I like most all old country folks that were pre-1980 (I even like some very select stuff from the 80s and 90s. today's country is complete shite though, except for a very few select "alt country" groups and/or people).
TO urgeok:
the Modern Lovers did release two (I think) studio albums. from what I've read/heard their history is kind of patchy when it comes to the facts. all of the songs they recorded were recorded in a studio, and some even by David Geffen way back in the day. I know Kim Fowley recorded those songs on "the Original Modern Lovers" album, some of which didn't make it onto the first record.

Audioslave is just a rock n roll band. I mean, I don't love them but I respect them. Rage against the machine and Soundgarden were creative and unique bands. I could name a million other bands that are worse, and if they're not in the first 1000. They're decent.

*singy*
~You've got her in your pocket, and there's no way out, no. Put it in the safe and lock it, 'cause it's home sweet home. Nobody ever told you that it was the wrong way. To trick a woman, make her feel she did it her way. And you'll be there if she ever feels blue. And you'll be there when she finds someone new. What to do? Well you know, you keep her in your pocket, where there's no way out, now. Put it in the safe and lock it, 'cause it's home sweet home.
The smile on your face, made her think she had the right one. Then she thought she was sure, by the way you two could have fun. But now she might leave like she's threatened before. Grab hold of her fast, before her feet leave the floor, and she's out the door. Cause you want to keep her in your pocket, where there's no way out, no. Put it in the safe and lock it, 'cause it's home sweet home.
And in your own mind you know you're lucky just to know her. And in the begining all you wanted was to show her. But now you're scared, you think she's running away. You search in your hand, for something clever to say. Don't go away. Cause I want to keep you in my pocket, where there's no way out. Put it in the safe the lock it, cause it's home sweet home. Home sweet home.~
Nice, huh?

My baby's got a heart of stone

she never did nothing to hurt you
so just leave her alone
The motion of her tiny hands
and the quiver of her bones below
are the signs of a girl alone
and tell you everything
you need to know
I can't explain it
I feel it often
everytime I see her face
but the way you treat her
fills me with rage and I
want to tear apart the place
You try to tell her what to do
and all she does is stare at you
her stare is louder than your voice
because truth doesn't make a noise

I like this one the best for BF:

It has all the great shit they did with their singers before Rollins (including one of my favorite punk vocalists Keith Morris of Circle Jerks fame). Never really dug the Rollins fronted BF (prefered him in Rollins Band - especially the album Weight)...... kick ass 80s punk album.
Fugazi's last one? Was that The Arguement? I really dug a lot of the songs on that one. There's some great mellow numbers with really spaced out sounding riffs.

I've been listening to the same old stuff... Ramones, Swingin Utters, PJ Harvey, Portishead. I really have to recommend "The Secret Life of the Love Song and The Flesh Made Word" two lectures given by Nick Cave. They should be available through bookstores under isbn 1902670078 or possibly through www.king-mob.co.uk . It's an amazing examination of the true nature of love songs and, separately, the impact of biblical imagery on art. There's also really really beautiful versions of "West Country Girl", "People Ain't No Good", "Sad Waters", "LOve Letters", and "Far From Me".

I've been listening to Codeine's The White Birch quite a bit lately. It's seriously one of the most miserable records I've ever heard. I'm not at all surprised that they called it quits after this. Unless your name is Michael Gira, it's hard to keep turning out such despairing work.

Right now I'm listening to the latest Bloodhound Gang album - Hefty Fine. It's interesting...pretty different from a lot of their stuff.
They've taken it in a more rock than hiphop direction, of course there's still funny lyrics happening here and there, but it seems to have taken a more serious turn musically...seems more effort went into the sound this time.
It's a pretty good album, I'd suggest checking it out.
Also been revisiting a few tracks here and there from the Beavis and Butthead do America, and Lil' Nicky soundtracks, and a few tracks off Necro - the sexorcist, Butthole Surfers - weird revolution

I really like the SAmhain version of All Hell Breaks Loose over the Misfits recording. That's my favorite track on Unholy Passion. I saw Danzig reunite with Doyle in Hollywood it was cool, but the sound sucked ass... the boring opening bands sounded better. You could barely hear the vocals and the bass was way down in the mix.[

Jamie Madrox - Phatso (good album...a GREAT breakaway from his usual)
Robbie Williams - Rudebox
Still checking out the works of "blue october".
Yello - Stella...Aside from that song that was in like every 80's movie ever made...this is one weird album. Not a bad listen tho...

"When Your Heart Stops Beating" - Plus 44
A guy at work left it in the CD player, and considering my job really doesnt entail much I figured I'd give it a spin or two. Not really a great album or anything, and I wouldnt shell out any money for it, but it was definatly worth a listen.

I'll be damned if they're not growing on me like a malignant mole. I'll admit it, I was wrong to dislike them.
