Blame it on Gravity, by the Old 97s. Their new album. Not as great as their first few records, but better than the uneven last one. Good country rock with incisive lyrics. A fun album.

http://images.ciao.com/iit/images/products/normal/440/product-859440.jpg

Picked this up out of a cheap bin.... which is as killer as the CD. Good blast of 80s styled HC, two EPs on one disc kinda deal. Nicki Sicki used to be in Verbal Abuse and its got Cheetah Crome on gat duties for the first EP.

This is an interesting live album; At this Madison
Square Garden show from 1978 Bowie eschews almost all of his most popular songs; he gives a perfunctory and short nod to FAME and ZIGGY STARDUST. Otherwise , he delves much more into his more avant garde Brian Eno inspired material; it's a bit offputting, especially on a warm, sunny day when girls are wearing those form fitting shorts, to get into the cool ,weirdness but it really does add up in the end. The most interesting song on this set is BOWIE's cover of the ALABAMA SONG, a song usually associated with THE DOORS.When there is guitar , it's ADRIAN BELEW shredding in a non-cliche manner. BOWIE is an example of an artist who remains true to his art and continues to get richer doing just that. He has never been a cliche ,angst ridden starving artist

Never heard Sparks before... ABBA have always creeped me out :)

Sparks are a power pop band from LA that transplanted to the UK.

I dont know how to describe them ... i dont think most people would get them but i think they have the best lyrics of any other band ... really odd and goofy .. alien almost.

worth checking out just to satisfy your curiosity ..

do a search for the song : This Town Aint Big Enough For the Both of Us,

or anything else off of the album : Kimono My House

the music always compliments the lyrics ... something most bands dont even bother with.

here's the lyrics for Amateur Hour - off of the same album...

Lawns grow plush in the hinterlands
It's the perfect little setting for the one night stands
Now the drapes are drawn and the lights are out
It's the time to put in practice what you've dreamed about

She can show you what you must do
To be more like people better than you

Chorus:
Amateur Hour goes on and on
When you turn pro you know - she'll let you know
Amateur Hour goes on and on
When you turn pro you know
She tells you so

Girls grow tops to go topless in
While we sit and count the hairs that blossom from our chins
Our voices change at a rapid pace
I could start a song a tenor and then end as bass

Choose your partners everyone
If you hesitate, the good ones are gone

(Chorus)

Dance, laugh, wine, dine, talk and sing
But those cannot replace what is the real thing
It's a lot like playing the violin
You cannot start off to be Yehudi Menuhin

(Chorus)

oh .. and as far as ABBA goes .. i have no excuses - i'm an unashamed fan :)

constantly listening to Black Ice - love it. i will say that i think the first four or five songs seem like the beginning to an epic 'back in black' but then it settled into not quite as stellar. that said, the latter half of the album is growing on me and i always kind of liked their more 'bluesy' stuff (I was always a big fan of Blow up your video, which was very bluesy and i think a lot of fans of their 'harder' sound didn't like it') the R&B beat in Decibel is great, for instance.

I'm really bad at describing music... They sound a bit like Franz Ferdinand or The Killers at times... Kinda a modern rock with some vague punk roots.

Here's their MySpce page:

http://www.myspace.com/theairbornetoxicevent

"Sometime Around Midnight" is their first radio release, though I think that you'd probably like "Gasoline" and "This is Nowhere" a lot more (has a more classic punk-ish sound but with a poppier edge).

I've been playing the album non-stop while I've been at work.

Iggy hasn't put anything all that good out since he 70's, My Idea of Fun is a good song from that album though.

That is so awesome that someone named their band Wurdalak. I could be wrong, but the only time I have ever heard that word was in Mario Bava's Black Sabbath (the 2nd part of the movie, with Boris Karloff).

Pretty obscure, yet completely awesome reference if that is where they got it from.

Haven't heard of them, but they look like my style!!

Yeh I'm pretty sure that's where they got their name from. Killjoy is a pretty big horror fan so it makes sense. I hadn't heard much about them either I got a couple of their albums in a bulk deal. Pretty cool blackened death metal. They all got together to pay tribute to Euronymous.

Sounds better that I expected, it could be perfect with another production, less clean more organic (something like "Chaos A.D.") but songs like Inflikted or Sanctuary realy kick ass.

got it for my birthday, but I haven't been listening to a lot of music lately so it didn't see much action. I've been feeling sick for the last few days, no appetite, no energy etc... anyway I've been lying down with the 5 disc set on shuffle in my cd changer that really loves disc 1. I like all the discs, but I'm too tired to fight with my cd changer about it.

Radiohead - Amnesiac
My favourite Radiohead album. Full of darkness and fantastic, strange songs. You and Whose Army? and Packt Like Sardines in a Crusht Tin Box are my favourites.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c93/Hey_Drake/828-think-tank.jpg
Blur - Think Tank
Blur's final album before their breakup, finally becoming more than a sing-along Brit pop group, but the power of the album unfortunately consuming and destroying them. Well, that's what I think. Check out the tracks Out of Time and On the Way to the Club if anyone's interested.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c93/Hey_Drake/post-259639-1151585235.jpg
John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
Very minimal and powerful. John's gone all out here, even if the songs sound scarcely layered. Mother and Working Class Hero are the best ont he album in my opinion.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c93/Hey_Drake/amontobin_foleyroom-747577.jpg
Amon Tobin - The Foley Room
Electronic, IDM, Trip-Hop; whatever you want to call it, this is fantastic. Intense instrumentals and harsh beats combine to make a really unique sound. I relaly dig the first track Bloodstone.

I hear that Trivium are whack. That Warbringer album is great. I dig how they've got a harder edge than most of the modern bands who kinda have that party/crossover vibe going down. Dudes sound like Kreator which is always a good thing... the German thrash sound is something else.

Kings of Leon - Only by the Night (which i'm digging though i'm not insane about) and Tinted Window - which is a bit poppy for my tastes but is this bizarre supergroup with the guitarist from smashing pumpkins, the singer from hanson (of all things), the drummer from cheap trick and the bass play from some other band (I can't remember right now). it is pretty good if you like power pop kind of indie stuff like matthew sweet

http://stepenrocks.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/blackmonktime.jpg

Monks- Black Monk Time

Incredible 1960s rhythmic garage rock from a group designed to be the "anti-Beatles". However, they turned out to be far more than the novelty might suggest. Super innovative stuff that should have gone down in history, but unfortunately it just didn't happen.

Seriously, check it out:

I bought 3 new CDs in the past 2 weeks so I've been listening to those alot in an attempt to formulate an opinion on them.

NOFX - Coaster = It's good. Nothing groundbreaking, but if you like other NOFX, you'll like this.

Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown = The jury is still out on this one. After 1 listen, I was very disappointed. After 2 & 3 listens, a few songs stand out as very cool while the album as a whole is starting to grow on me.

Eminem - Relapse = I've only listened to this whole thing once, but I was very disappointed in it. 3 or 4 cool songs and the rest felt very generic. Considering it took him 4 years to put it out, I am not impressed. Hopefully, it'll grow on me after a few more listens.

Aside from those, I went to a Toadies concert last night so I've been listening to lots of old & rare Toadies stuff to get fired up for it. Toadies are awesome. If anyone gets the chance to see them live, I highly recommend checking them out. Very intense, rocking live show. Their albums are all solid too.
