The Avengers: Age of Ultron - Official Discussion/Announcements thread

He has no idea where Tony Stark will have ended up, post-Avengers in 2012, but Jon Favreau has confirmed that he wants to continue Iron Man's solo outings when the team-up dust has settled.

He told MTV that he sees The Mandarin as Robert Downey Jr's next major adversary.

"You've got to do The Mandarin", says the director, who has been teasing this in the films already with tiny references to the Ten Ring organisation, "but the problem is, the way he's depicted in the comic books... you don't want to see that."

The way he's depicted in the comic books is basically as a dastardly Chinaman, a la Fu Manchu. He's a scientific genius, descended from Genghis Khan, whose martial arts prowess makes him capable of taking on the armoured Stark with his bare hands (although at one point he lost his memory and became a cleaner at Stark Enterprises).

An IGN poll last year ranked him the 81st greatest comic book villain of all time. So he's above Carnage and Mysterio, but 79 paces below The Joker.

He gets his power from ten magical rings, which Favreau concedes is a problem in his highly tech-based Iron Man universe. But with that universe expanding to include the supernatural Thor, he reasons "maybe introducing magic won't seem out of place" after all.

Iron Man 2 is currently dominating the world's box office. Iron Man 3... is a long way off.

Jon Favreau has talked again about the status of Iron Man 3, stating that the threequel will be a continuation of the big screen adventures of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers.

While promoting his new movie Cowboys & Aliens, the director discussed how the story of Iron Man 3 would be entirely dependent on the fall-out of the other Marvel movies coming out next year.

“Kevin Feige, who’s been involved with superhero movies with Marvel movies since the X-Men films, is very aware of his path and how to weave [things together],” says Favs.

“So in theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

This much we pretty much already knew, but it’s good to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

Though Favreau is still yet to fully commit to a third Iron Man, we assume he’ll need to get started on a script soon if he wants to avoid a repeat of Iron Man 2 – which was criticised by audiences for not having a strong enough story.

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on 3 May, 2013.

The Avengers II - Official Discussions and Announcements thread

Now that The Avengers is steamrolling through the BOs worldwide, garnering big points from geeky fans and critics alike, it's time we had this thread as a forerunner to the next installment in the franchise.

As we speak, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are already in development, with scheduled releases in 2013. Here's the latest on both of them :-

Quote:
Though all eyes have been on Iron Man 3 as of late with that film going into production imminently, Marvel is also set to start filming another superhero pic later this year: Thor 2.

Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston are all set to return, and after an extensive director search that saw Patty Jenkins join and subsequently drop out of the project, Game of Thrones staple Alan Taylor is set to take the helm. As that production looms closer, we now have our first new casting addition and it’s a biggie: Mads Mikkelsen will be playing the villain.

Quote:
We recently reported that Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) would be joining Tom Hiddleston as a baddie in Thor 2, so Iron Man 3 went ahead and added their own firepower.

In this case, “Firepower” is actually the villain that Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) is in talks to play. In the Marvel universe, Hamilton’s character was the pilot of a “power suit” prototype built by the government (likely, S.H.I.E.L.D.) under the codename “Project: Firepower.” And we all know that, once you’ve strapped on a suit of battle armor, it doesn’t take too long before you challenge Tony Stark/Iron Man himself (Robert Downey Jr.).

So, will we see other sequels as well (like Captain America 2 scheduled for a 2014 release, Nick Fury's own standalone movie, etc.), and a possible Amazing Spider-Man link-up to The Avengers 2 as well? Admit it, even a cameo by Spidey will add a lot of fireworks to the already turbo-charged lineup.

And finally, will there (finally) be an introduction of The Wasp?

Oh, and what about that Ant-Man movie?

Questions, to which we shall find the answers in the days to come.

They should include the Wasp since she was one of original Avengers. And Spider-Man because, well, it's Spider-Man, it's awesome, and he was part of the Avengers once, if I recall correctly.
I think there's also a new Hulk movie planned. I'm curious to see Iron-Man 3 and Thor 2, if they are as good as the prequels I am going to love them. I have yet to see Captain America though.

I guess again there will be a cameo of Nick Fury at the end of the new Spider-Man movie. Though I've nothing to complain about the current team (movie) of Avengers but yeah...they should have add Wasp & Ant-Man as far the original comic book series goes. Who knows...they may add some events in the sequel which would force Black Widow & Hawkeye to leave the group & make the spots for Wasp & Ant!? ;)

Iron Man 3 update - No Iron Patriot in the Film, but the Patriot Armor does indeed belong to a character. Plus pics from the set, of Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr, Guy Pearce & Jon Favreau:-

Thor 2 update - THOR 2 Recruits Zachary Levi for the Warriors Three.

Quote:
Not all of the Warriors Three will be returning for Thor 2. While Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) will be reprising their roles as two of the warriors from Thor, Fandral (Josh Dallas) apparently will not. Dallas’ prior commitments to the ABC series, Once Upon a Time, will prevent him from joining the sequel. So reports have it that Marvel is looking to ex-secret agent super-spy, Zachary Levi (Chuck) to fill the role.

Captain America 2 update :-

Quote:
Anthony Mackie is in talks to team up with Chris Evans for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, possibly as the Falcon.
One of the very first African-American superheroes and a regular partner for Captain America, in the comic books the Falcon (a.k.a. Sam Wilson) has an ability to communicate with his falcon Redwing, as well as fly via a specialized suit.
Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the film, which will be released April 4, 2014.

Also, Guardians of the Galaxy is also under production. I can't wait for all of them to be released.

Walt Disney Studios announced on Thursday that the untitled sequel to The Avengers, the third-highest grossing movie of all time, will arrive in theaters on Fri., May 1, 2015.

As the studio announced last week, Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the project as part of an exclusive three-year film and television deal with Marvel.

The announcement rounds out the next five films in Marvel’s “Phase Two” slate: Iron Man 3 is set for May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World for Nov. 8, 2013; Captain America: The Winter Soldier for April 4, 2014; and Guardians of the Galaxy for Aug. 1, 2014.

The next lingering question: Where Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will fit into this scheme.
