Home Invasion Films

Quote:
The 'home invasion' movie works to unsettle and disturb its audience by preying on the fearful anxiety that someone or something could gain entry to our home with the sole intention of harming us. By penetrating our sanctuary--the place we live, rest and take refuge after a long day--these films work to make us feel unsafe within our very own four walls....

  • The Last House on the Left (1972)
  • Straw Dogs (1971)
  • Fight for Your Life (1977)
  • The House on the Edge of the Park (1980)
  • Halloween (1978)
  • Inside (2007)
  • Funny Games (1997)
  • Wait Until Dark (1967)
  • Black Christmas (1974)
  • Ils aka Them (2006)
  • Hostage (2005)

  • Kidnapped (2010)
  • Of Unknown Origin (1983)...kinda unusual but effective!
  • Last House on the Beach (1978)
  • See No Evil aka Blind Terror (1971)
  • Mother's Day (2010)
  • Night Train Murders (1975)
  • Fear (1996)
  • High Tension (2003)
  • The Strangers (2008)
  • Backwoods (2006)
  • Panic Room (2002)

Is there any other worth to check out?

Have anyone seen the following films? Got the titles from some other lists.

Death Game (1977), Desperate Hours (1990), The Ref (1994) & If I Die Before I wake (1998)?

Desperate Hours (1955)is the original Home Invasion movie (and the remake you mentioned with Mickey Rouke).

Some of the ones you list I really wouldn't count like Halloween. Its not that this is a genre set in stone but I always consider it 'Home Invasion' when the Invaders take control of the residence and victims (who in turn escape/turn the tables etc etc). That just my opinion.

Oh I quite liked Death Game and the Desperate Hours remake when I saw it at the time.

I guess you could add Tenement to the list.

I watched Straw Dogs for the first time recently, and it's pretty decent. A mixture of Deliverance, The Wicker Man and Last House On The Left.

I agree that Halloween isn't really much of a Home Invasion film as Michael Myers doesn't really invade one house, more like an entire street.

Black Christmas, again not really a Home Invasion film imo, but at least it sticks to one area. Creepy as hell too.

I've never seen Fight For Your Life as it's banned here in the UK, one of the remaining video nasties to still remain so. I've heard it's more because of the racial language rather than the violence...although that's pretty strong.

I am interested in seeing it if it ever gets an official release over here, partly because of my interest in the whole Nasties era and partly because of William Sanderson who's in one of my all-time favourite films, Blade Runner. Although he seems a lot different in this film...

Fight for life is a guilty pleasure of mine. William Sanderson is great in it..Amazing dialogue.

Haven't seen those films, so thanks a lot for the rec.

And yeah...I agree with Ferox & ZD. Films like Halloween & Black Christmas actually least treated as Home Invasion films as their premise or storyline actually has very little to tag under Home Invasion category. I just added them as I saw this famous slasher titles in some other list of Home Invasion films.

I intentionally not included Trespass as I thought it is quite inferior than the above listed films; more like a loose remake of Kidnapped (2010).

August Underground: Mordum features home invasion (even though the whole film is not about home invasion). Not a great film though.
