Your Favorite Big Bug Stories--Cockaroach, etc.

Here's where you post stories about the horrible big bugs you have had encounters with. Only the really nasty or weird ones, please!

Here is mine--once I was visiting a friend's place in the summertime, and some folks had put dishes of cat food out for the local stray cats. And these really slow roaches would come out at night--big ones!--and they would gather around the cat food trays. They moved real slow, seemed to be sleepy. And they would grab a piece of cat food and somehow CARRY IT AWAY to their hiding places. I saw this happening and I couldn't believe what I was seeing--they were struggling to carry these nuggets of dry cat food, but they were doing it, they were making off with them.

The cats were afraid to go near the bowls when the bugs were there, and would not be seen around the cat food at night.

Like leezuki I usually stay away from insects but I LOVE spiders-house spiders are great at getting rid of other insects at night. I've had a few big ones-they get in through the cellar which only my landlord has access to but I don't mind.

This one time i was vacationing in New Mexico and unbeknownst to me the government was doing nuclear testing there. Well wouldn't you know it, my vacation got cut short by some giant mutated ants. It was horrible, i almost died. That's the last time i go to the desert.

OMG! OMG!

I liked 8-Legged Freaks also. But that's a silly movie.

I don't like spiders in the house. I will try to trap them in a little styrofoam cup and throw them out the window, if possible. Or I will tell it to go away somewhere where I can't see it!

What unnerves me about spiders...is the smooth, elegant way they move. They do not skitter or scramble! They are very graceful and intelligent-looking. Something that smart is capable of great ghoulishness! They are the Peter Lorres of the bug world.

Cockroaches are my real weakness. Cockroaches and Millipedes. The lack of face vs. weird long antennae just make me shiver. On the other hand - love spiders!

Luckily, I've never actually come into a sticky situation with the faceless beasts. The extent of scary insects in England tends to be "Eugh, one of those Ladybirds landed on me today. You know - the YELLOW ones."
