Leonardo Da Vinci: Action Hero!

If Abraham Lincoln can be a vampire hunter, then why can't Leonardo Da Vinci — the man most closely associated with the Italian Renaissance of the 15th century — be a hunter of Biblical demons?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the action-adventure treatment 'Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever' from producer Adrian Askarieh.

Da Vinci is famous for his iconic paintings (The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper), but also for being an inventor, engineer, architect and mathematician. The action-adventure treatment re-imagines Da Vinci as a member of a secret society who falls headlong into a supernatural adventure that pits him against Biblical demons in a story involving secret codes, lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels.

Think of Da Vinci as the Robert Langdon of his era...with a little Indiana Jones thrown in for good measure.

Askarieh, who is producing via his Prime Universe, came up with the original idea and wrote the treatment, with a search for a writer now under way.

Askarieh will team with Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Ah, Sherlock Holmes, what hast thou wrought? Taking literary and histocial figures and making them kick ass is the newest thing, with Francis Lawrence's Marco Polo, Paul WS Anderson's Three Musketeers, Guy Ritchie's King Arthur, Moby Dick, Captain Nemo, and Moses all in various stages of prep.

Yippie kie yay, Mona Lisa?
