Fond memories

I have some good memories of my very early years. Things like going on Holidays in caravans and Saturday morning TV as well as my brother and sister visiting and bringing the Playstation One.

But one that suddenly flooded back to me was the old Australian TV programme based on some books I used to read (I think one was called Uncanny tales). Anyway, it was called Round the Twist, and I used to watch it after coming home from school. I loved the theme tune especially.

After reading that, I bet most of you don't really see the significance of it, and to tell the truth, there is none. It didn't really affect my life, but I remember it relatively well. You guys must have memories like that. Such as Newb remembering the wheel being invented or fire being discovered (sorry Mr. Beer, couldn't resist). Come on, let's hear 'em!

oh sure, definitely. I have great memories of the neighborhood as it was when I was a kid...things seemed brighter and bigger in those days, and I especially loved summer vacations and walking around the area doing basically nothing but looking around, seeing grasshoppers, ladybugs, that sort of thing. And then coming home and having a nice cold glass of iced tea! Nice memories.

Yeah the show "Round the Twist" was great...well, the first edition of it anyways which ran for about 4 seasons, they had another a few years later which while based on the stories of the same author, Paul Jennings, I found a bit lacking...and every single cast member being replaced just annoyed me.
I'd love to get the original series on dvd.
I remember one episode that cracked me up was when the older brother, Pete, got some kind of curse on him that made him say "without my pants" after every sentence, man...that was some good stuff.
Jennings has written like, 20+ books that are mainly (aside from 3-4) collections of those short stories upon which the series was initially based.
I only found out fairly recently that about 6-7 more have come out since, I'd love to get a collection going on for when I have a kid, well, that and I think they're pretty funny too.

Memories...yeah, I got some stuff...

Hearing, at 10, that my mother was knocked up - somehow I never strayed in my thoughts that it'd be a boy, and it was.

The first time said little brother tried drinking Coke - this was funny.

My chick, the one I've still got today some 10+ years later...the whole asking for her number after such nervousness about it to find she'd planned on giving it to me anyway, the "first date" bit, realising that I'd finally met one that didn't seem full of shit and that I just liked spending time with...I'd been alone for a while, and had a bad relationship prior, it was a nice change.

Loud rain on the (first house) tin-roof, might seem chaotic to some, but when you're as young as I was, a funny thing happens - and now, I find nothing more relaxing than the sound of rain on a tin roof, puts me right to sleep.

Quitting pre-school - I would NOT stand for fingerpainting a moment longer

Swapping "lunch orders" with my friend in early primary school.

Arcades - back when they had fun games not just generic racers and street fighter clones...ah, beat 'em ups were the shit!

My dogs, in general...all of 'em...

When I taught myself to "cook" ha, which consisted of me adding things to instant noodles, and making grilled pizza sub type things with tomato paste, cheese and dried oregano...a far cry from today, but I felt accomplished.

Playing baseball at school

Finding frogs down a drainpipe that was next to my place, they were ALWAYS in there, you could just reach down and grab 'em.

Well, that stuff came to mind...

of course the older we get the more memories are stored......until Alzheimers takes them away.

kid years:

putting on our PJs [the one with the feet in them ] and packing up the car for a drive-in night.

Christmas mornings

Traveling to New Hampshire to go camping in the tent

teen years:

bike riding with friends

getting drivers license

going skiing in a blizzard while listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd

my first beer..* sorry...getting a bit weepy*

getting to second base

packing the car with beer for a drive-in night with friends

getting to third base :D

adult years:

getting married

kids start popping out....1...2...3...4..[what the fuck woman...are you a rabbit]

parents start dying off

daughter gets married

holy shit....where did the time go

still acting like twenty something...but the body doesn't always comply.

Through reading those I've got these images in my head of Crabby sitting there with a ladybird on his finger, Newb (as he is today) wearing onesie PJs and Cheebs taking instant noodles and delicately preparing them.

Another one just came back to me. Every morning I was the first one awake (until I reached about 9, now I'm the last). Anyway, up until I was 5 or 6 I had this thing where I'd stand at the top of the stairs for about 10 minutes trying to pluck up the courage to walk down (in the fear that the monsters would eat me). I always got down safely, but that didn't stop me from being scared the next day.

A snapshot of Halloween 1975:

The "Invisible Man" TV series with David McCallum is on, or just got canceled...it's Halloween, and I have drawn pictures of my favorite monsters and tacked them up on the window near the front door so the trick or treaters can see them...there is a new couch in the livingroom, banana yellow, and I have to get used to that...the old green one was getting really ratty but it was comfy and soft...Horror of Dracula aka Dracula is on TV in brilliant Technicolor hues, and it is the scariest and most beautiful thing I have ever seen on TV.

Wow. That's a pretty vivid memory. I find with those kind, they can suddenly flood back by a simple sound or colour. Maybe that yellow or someone mentioning Dracula would do it for you.

I remember Round the Twist! Fucking great show.

I remember watching Reboot a lot when I was little. I also have a lot of fond memories watching Star Trek the Next Gen. and MASH with my Dad.

I remember camping at Yogi Bear park and getting to pet a baby leopard or something.

Ahh, Star Trek the Next Generation. In actual fact, Commander Worf was one of the "monsters" I was scared of when I stood above the stairs. FUnny that he's grown into my favourite character of the series.
