Jean Claude Van Damme's latest "Weapon"

A few weeks back a press release announced that Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal would (finally) team-up for the action flick Weapon.

Alas, that pairing won't be happening after all.

Instead, Flagship Films announced today that Van Damme's co-star will be Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand).

Russell Mulcahy (Highlander, The Shadow, Resident Evil: Extinction) will direct. Filming begins this August in Vancouver.

"Weapon's script is a cut above any of the action scripts I've seen recently," Mulcahy said in a statement. "Then, when I saw Jean-Claude's film JCVD, I was blown away; not only can he kick ass literally he kicks ass as an actor. I am looking forward to bringing that talent further to the fore in Weapon."

In Weapon, Jack Conway (Jones) and Derek Chase (Van Damme) are the two best assassins in the world — but unknown to each other. While Conway is a master sharpshooter, Chase is equally skilled with a knife. These two rival assassins form an uneasy alliance to take down the head of a drug cartel, which is backed by the DEA.

With the greatest respect to Jean Claude, he definately cannot act.

Sounds like another straight to DVD actioner

Really? Other than a few cheesy moments I thought he did a pretty good job in JCVD. Have you seen JCVD?

I'm a big Van Damme fan, Seagal too their movies are tops in my book. Well, they were after I learned of one of the greatest drinking games ever. Whenever anyone-and I mean anyone-is taken out of the script due to death, dismemberment, boken bones, punches or kicks, you have to yell,"Man Down!!" and take a drink. Seagal is the real king, that guy is rediculous, but he rocks the 'Man Down".

haha I'll have to give that drinking game a go.

I've been enjoying watching Seagal and Van Damme's later output. I was a huge fan of both as a kid... a lot of their new stuff is hit and miss but still really entertaining.
