Hawaii 5-0

A great cop series from the 60's and 70s that doesn't get enough praise. It combined elements of crime, suspense and espionage into one of the most violent action packed shows of that era. Starring Jack Lord, who's hair seemed to be frozen in time, this series along with Streets of San Francisco, helped contribute to increased censorship on American television.

Populated with Super-villains like Wo Fat(Khigh Dhiegh
,best remembered as the Chinese agent at the "tea" party in Manchurian Candidate), crazed 'Nam vet snipers, serial killers, and any other psycho with a plane ticket to the island, it drew from all sources for it's storylines. A television show that played like a movie.

Lord was one of the most deadpan cops since Jack Webb. Along with his by-the-numbers detective style, McGarrett was assisted by ever-perky Danny Williams(James "Book'em Dan-O" MacArthur), Chin Ho(Kam Fong) and Kono(Zulu) in his quest for the villain of the week. And almost everybody in action films ended up being one.

The show ran from 1968-80 and can still be seen in reruns, along with DVD sets. Always fun to watch. And that theme song still rocks.

Yes, one of the best theme songs ever. Book em Dano became part of the language for quite some time. Never missed an episode as a kid.

Mannix and the Rookies were alright, but I could never get into Cannon and Ironsides. Too Blob-like.
