Question for anyone who is familiar with Steam and iTunes

Okay, my wife has had her share of problems with iTunes, and it has gotten me thinking. Does iTunes "remember" what you have paid for the way steam does? I have had close to 4 hard drive crashes and even purchased a new computer since i bought Half-Life 2 from steam, and every time,l i install steam, login, then download my gamnes, good as new, no extra cost.

How about iTunes? if you hd goes on the fritz, can you reinstall iTunes on a new one and download all fo the songs and shows you have already paid for, or do they make you buy them again?

Which I might point out, would be bullshit. Paying again for something that they can deliver with no actual effort on their part, and that you have already paid for is ridiculous.

If you go into your itune account options, there is a option for your Purchase History, there I'm pretty sure you can re download them at no extra cost. My fiance just got a new laptop last week, and this is what she had to do to get her songs back.

It used to be the case that you couldn't download them again. Apple made a point of telling people to back up their purchased music, because if you lost them, it was too bad.

However, I have heard of some people pleading with iTunes store and being able to download them all again.

I am not sure if this is changed. I am going by what I heard probably 18 months ago.
