Woman Sentenced For Setting Boyfriend On Fire

Volusia County, Florida -- A Volusia County woman, accused of setting her boyfriend on fire, tried Friday morning to avoid any time in prison.

The judge, though, sentenced Karianne Cregar to the maximum amount possible, eight years in prison, for the night she doused her boyfriend in gasoline and watched him basically burn up on their front porch. He died three days later.

Cregar pled guilty to manslaughter, Thursday, for what she did back in September. She was trying to stay out of prison, though.

She and her family contend she was a frustrated, mentally abused woman who was just looking for help on the night she threw that can of gasoline.

The state argued, though, if she was that distraught, she could have just left the house; she even walked to the car to get the gas can.

It was an emotional hearing. Even the usually stone-faced prosecutor had her voice crack a bit as she was talking about the night the man died.
