You know things are crazy when...

you're packing for a home move, and you realise you've more boxes full of DVDs & vhs than cloths and other general house hold items.

Last week I moved 8 large boxes of vhs tapes, they must have weighed around 12~15kg each. All were previously stored out of sight and I'd forgotten how many I still had. I found loads in cupboards around the house too. I've started boxing up my DVD collection of regular and limited edition sets. It looks like I'm barely half way and theres already 9 boxes stacked up, ready to be loaded into the van at the weekend.

Once I've moved them up, the next problem is deciding on the shelving. I think a trip to Ikea will be needed.

ah well, back to the boxes.

I know what you mean. the last time i moved we had 5 large boxes of bottles (because i collect liquor bottles) and six of books, mostly from role playing games. Its scary when your geek hobbies end up weighing several times your body mass.

A routine purge of one's possessions is always good for the soul.

trouble is, I can't bring myself to part with them. I've no working vhs player but still feel the need to keep all those tapes. I may search for a cheap one just so I can watch some of them in the future.

All of the films on vhs I wanted to update have been bought on dvd, but since sifting through them last week, there's plenty I want to watch again.

I despise my search through it all when I pack to move over seas and oceans and masses of land. I don't want to get rid of my records or my videos or books.

but I'm sure as hell not lending them out again. they never come back completley intact.

Haha, I'm going through the same thing. All of my clothes for my move fit into my carry on luggage. However, I have about 8 boxes I have to mail ahead of me. Seven of them are full of DVDs.

begs the question -- do you own your possessions or do they own you?

Buying them at one point was taking over, searching for limited editions, particularly the asian ones took some time to find.

I do have some quite valuable OOP dvds, but they're only valuable to collectors of that type. Even if I car booted them on a Sunday afternoon I'd only get a few $'s for them as the general buyer wouldn't see them as that valuable.
