The joys of parenthood

Its amazing the things that actually make you love your kid more.

Monday night, we finally got to bed at around 11:45. By 1, my daughter woke up. it took us 30 minutes to get her back to sleep, we laid back down. 5 minutes later, i hear her talking, so i get up, close up the bedroom, and try to get comfortable on the couch. (So bree wouldnt get woken up while i fought with trying to get the baby down)

well, i go in and make sure she has her pacifier, her diaper is clean, the usual, and lay her back down after she has a hissy fit.

I pulled up my work laptop, figuring i wouldnt be getting much sleep, when Lily started making a coughing sound, and crying. I rushed in because i could not imagine what was up. She threw up. Not baby spit up, or a little bit of food coming back up, as babies sometimes do, this was "drunk sorority chick with best friend holding hair" puking, complete with the full body heaves. SCARY to see your little baby do.

So i snatched her up to comfort her because she was bawling (no doubt scared shitless, plus we all know how much that kind of puking hurts), and she lets go. I held her so that the carpet wasnt getting doused, and got EVERYTHING she had eaten or drunk for the past 8 hours all over me.

So now, shirtless, i clean her up, get her a drink, change her sheets, new clothes, brush her teeth, put her back down. She nods off. I sit down, figuring i'll give her 30 mintes, and if everything is okay, ill lay down and try to sleep.

After 10 minutes, we once again have a coughing noise. I run in, and there she is, crying, having thrown up juice, all over the place. Same routine as before, this time omitting the cup of juice. Cleanup, get a little more puke on me, back to bed with baby.

10 minutes later, AGAIN. Same routine, she is runningout of sheets and pajamas, i end up with only underwear because she barfed all over everythign else.

I try one more time, again with the same results. At this point, i was desperate and ended up waking bree for help. (It was about 3:45 at that point)

We paged the pediatrician, turns out a fun little intestinal virus is going around. Get her some pedialyte, give her a teaspoon every 15 minutes or so for a couple of hours, then up the dosage. She'll be fine. At this point, i ahve never seen a baby look so weak or pale. Scared the hell out of me.

I ran to walgreens to get her the pedialyte (and to get bree and myself some things to stay awake, coffee, red bull, etc). We gave her a bath (by this time, Bree had been puked on almost as much as me), then we put her to bed, and thank god, she slept. We managed to make it to bed by 6:30, AM.

We had been warned about one little detaiol: Shortly after the vomiting ends, diarhea sets it. I discovered this, much to my horror, during Lily's breakfast. The smell was probably the most awful thing i have ever encountered, and cleaning her up resembled a murder scene, only not with blood...

this time, i ended up in the bath with the baby, having been covered in nastyness myself. The last lingering threads of my squeamishness were taken out behind a convenience store and shot inthe back of the head monday night and tuesday. The funny thing is, when all was said and done, i felt better baout myself because of this whole incident, because all i could think of throughout was making sure my baby was okay. :)

The downside being that if you end up with someone who is sick throwing up on you, and you get no sleep, odds are you are goingto catch whatever they have. MY throat hurts and i have a headache. And Bree is sick. Lily seems okay though.

Just wait til Lily starts going to school and is bringing all those germs home with her!

I'm glad she's better. Sorry that you and Bree are getting it now, tho.

You did a great job looking after Lily, sorry you and Bree are both coming down with it now

Small children dehydrate very quickly, probab,ly be a good idea to keep Pediolyte in the cupboard and make sure it doesn't go past it's expiry date, it'll save time and worry if she picks up any similar bugs when she starts her first school

I hate it when my babies were/are sick.
You did an awesome job though! Hope you get better soon.

All of us with kids know the feeling that if it was neccesary, we'd yank our eyeballs out if our children needed them.:)

Should I just NEVER speak to you or what?
I don't recall ever pissing you off or being unkind to you, but everytime I post anywhere near you-I get no response.
Not sure why, so enlighten me.
EDIT: I meant this for Vod-btw
