Motorcycle Help

i was hoping i could get a few opinions out of any members who are experienced motorcycle riders.

I will be buying my first bike sometime this month, and im not afriad to admit that I am a total NOOB.

I have my permit, and have done all the proper research regarding saftey.

NOW...its time to pick out WHICH bike will best suit my needs.

I want a cruiser.
NO JAP BIKES.

I am between the Yamaha Virago, and the Suzuki S40.

The yamaha is 250cc
and the Suzuki is 650cc

The suzuki looks gorgeous, but i read a few bad reviews regarding its weight and constant backfires. But im also afriad that the yamaha is just too wimpy, and ill get sick of it.

My budget is around 4k (TOPS).

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

THANKS
