LEOLA, Pa. -- The small town of Leola, population 750, is finding itself at the center of a national news story after six bodies were found in a home there Wednesday.

"It's sad. It's really sad. I feel bad for that family," said Leola resident Abbie Ellis. "And when children are involved, it's just horrifying.

Police announced the arrest of Jesse Dee Wise, 21, on Thursday. They said he killed his grandmother, two aunts, and three cousins over the weekend in the house at 81 E. Main St.

The youngest victim was Chance Wise, 5, police said.


"I knew the little boy. He went to the day-care center where I work," said Desiree Whitley. "It's terrible. I couldn't even imagine this happening."

The Wise family moved to Leola about six months ago from New Holland, which is just a few miles east of Leola.

I'd say it's about a minute away from your house. Making it about three minutes away from mine. Yeah, this was a tragic event. Hell, I was down at BlockBuster on friday because my friend Bud who works there, it was his last day. Anyway, the guy who did the family slaying was in the store just a day or two before he got caught. So, the detectives came down and asked for his info. So, of course, Bud gave it to them. Soon, he gets a phone call from the manager of the whole BlockBuster corporation complaining about how Bud could not give away account information no matter what. It was so fucked up! I mean, this was not the way to spend your last day at work. I knew it was hard on Bud, but I'm pretty sure he's glad it's done and over with. As for me, well, this town isn't such a safe palce to live in. This is the town where the infamous FreddyFan (yes, I know him and am good friends with him) threatended to kill his teacher. A couple months after that, on mine and FreddyFan's street, there was a hold-up with a guy up the street with the cops. Now, we have the Amityville Horror slayings afoot. This is starting to become the white man's ghetto.
