Streak of Bad Luck?

I'm sure most people have had runs of bad luck before, most people believe they exist. I think I'm on one of them right now! You know, one of those stretches of time where you're sort of beset by one thing after another, and whatever you try to accomplish during this time somehow gets thwarted. Yes--thwarted! You heard me right. Everything I've tried to do for like three weeks has been THWARTED by some mysterious influence. And just today I stepped back and said, "Holy fuck! This must be a run of bad luck come to make things interesting. Goddamn!"

The people at Horror.com are not known for being whiny little BASTARDS. Well, some of 'em are. But most of 'em aren't. There's a bit of complaining in every anguished howl, but folks hereabouts generally are proactive and positive-thinking BUTT KICKERS, and take some sort of stance on hardship when it comes their way.

Some people have some procedure or thing they do to break the bad luck spell, like they spit on the first CHICKEN that walks past them, or throw a coin in a fountain and make a wish, or they do a prayer or consult the spirit of the moon or somesuch nonsense. I mean this is when you've TRIED the REGULAR shit of just doing your best, putting effort into your affairs, diligence and TENACITY, you know. And then after that you're like, "Well, I'm not a superstitious person by nature, but screw it, I'm spitting on a chicken because Sally said it worked for her."

I don't have any such methods for changing the pendulum swing of luck. Do you guys have any suggestions? Should I go buy a chicken and sort of set it up and wait for it to walk past me, or something like that? ?

I WISH I knew how to dispell bad luck...As I am currently experiencing quite a run of my own...

Last Friday night, my family and I went out for dinner, then to the festival where we rode some rides and played some games, the kids won some cheesy stuffed animals, and we went home...Upon arriving at home there was a message from my mother that she heard on the scanner that the police were looking for a car that was in my name...

So...After calling the police department, this is what I found out...

My ex (who is driving a vehicle that was STILL in MY name), went out, got wasted, and was involved in a hit and run...The license plate number sent the police to ME...I told them that he was the one who has possession of that vehicle and that I have never driven that vehicle (well, I did one time, a long time ago)...Anyway, they asked for his name and address...I gave them his name, but I didn't know the address, I told them the street name and which house it was...My son gave the officer his phone number...So, I figured they'd arrest him and put him in jail...Meanwhile, I didn't know how much I would be responsible for since the car was in my name...

I found out that my ex did NOT have the vehicle insured at the time of the accident, but he does NOW (did it 2 days ago) But, that isn't gonna make a damned bit of difference, and I don't see what the point is since the car is totalled now anyway...

So...The way I see it...He will be charged with hit and run, and I will be responsible for the lawsuit that I am sure will ensue, to pay for property damages (to the truck that he hit) and medical expenses for the person who was driving the truck...Luckily no one was killed....So far, my ex has NOT been arrested...I have no idea why...

I still haven't got a clue what's going to happen to us...I went to the courthouse, Monday morning to transfer that vehicle OUT of my name and into his...But, that's after the fact...

I'm just waiting to see how much we are going to have to pay, and if we are going to lose OUR vehicles, and our home because of something that loser asshole did, that had absolutely nothing to do with us...

Yeah...I'd call THAT a bit of bad luck...

I'm having a bad luck streak myself. A sinus infection has me temporarily (better be) deaf in my right ear and not so good in my left. For those of you who don't know, I compose and do soundwork in horror movies. As if that's not bad enough, some asshole bumped me head on into the median wall of the expressway Saturday night. My car bounced off doing a 360 across all 4 lanes to end up dead in the passing lane. The car is totalled and he/she drove off scot free. I'm bruised up and such, but nothing as bad as it could've been (wear your seatbelts, kids!). I found out my license is suspended while filling out the police report for a ticket en route to a horror con last year. Now I can't go to work this week (I'm a delivery driver by day) either way.
Sucks !!!!

it's partly bad luck - but largely avoidable ...

this should have been taken care of ages ago - you HAVE to anticipate shit like this will happen.

if you had a gun registered in your name would you let the ex husband keep it ?

this shit absolutely has to be dealt with at the time of separation.

its unfortunate, and i feel for you - its learning the hard way - thats for sure.

I have years of experience in programming, even more in web design. i have sent out countless resumes. The only replies i have recieved have been from 3 different recruiting agencies, ALL 3 for the same job at the same company... and not one call from them yet....

OR, i get unsolicited offers from companies that are 2 hours away on a good day....

I don't think that calling on the spirit of the Moon is nonsense thank you very much. As a Witch, I do it frequently.

There's no point in giving you occult remedies if you don't believe in them, and just because you don't believe in them, doesn't mean they don't work for us that do believe in them.*

Besides, I've got my own shit to deal with here, there, and everywhere. I'm totally at my wits ends.

*Say I put a curse on "Jack," but "Jack" claims he doesn't believe in curses. That doesn't matter because I'm the Witch, I'm doing the spell, and I sure as hell believe in it's devastating effects. What "Jack" believes is inconsequential. It's tantamount to no believing in earthquakes. The techtonic plates don't give a flying fuck what you believe in anyway.

Actually I just made up that part about the Spirit of the Moon. I didn't think anyone actually did it; I never heard that the moon had a spirit in the first place, so no disrespect was intended. Perhaps the word "nonsense" suggested an insulting tone. But no, I was actually just trying to keep it light. The fact is, I do believe in quite a few things, hence the thread...

On another topic, though, I just did something I should have done freaking years ago, I looked up the personality type of a person who's been causing me problems and started researching what makes that kind of person tick. I was surprised at the amount of useful psychological literature out there! And so now I have some idea about how to send this person packing....I recommend doing something similar to anyone who is regularly victimized by a difficult personality type.

I can't argue with this...It's true and I have been telling myself this all week...But, I DID sign the title over to him, he just never went to the courthouse to have it transferred...I should have kept up with it to make sure that he finished it...
