Why do we choose to revert to music from our past?

As music gets shittier by the day, i cannot help but to go through my collection and put some bowie on or maybe some early 90's and listen to alice in chains or stp. very few things have caught my attention, i say sadly and regretfully, i have to sometimes force myself to listen to new music just to know that i cannot listen. What do you listen to when you realize how shitty the music we are force fed day after day?

Oh yeah i still cant go wrong with listening to blind melon or maybe some motley crue
hmmm that sounds good but so does cheeseburgers

I do it because what is mainstream right now sounds like shit to me. I like what I like.

There is underground bands out there.. Music has been shitty for about 10 years.. You guys probably disagree. But Modest Mouse is good, I knew of them way before the hype. But that album is the best of this year, hands down.. I think

Some new bands are pretty good as long as you are thinking outside of MTV. Like Mike V and the Rats. Also movies have a big effect on my music selection. The "CKY" movies have excellent soundtracks.

I have very little bands i like that were on MTV like Orgy and Queens of the Stone Age and so fourth. Basically i like "unique" bands. But everything i see on MTV nowadays all sounds exactly the same.

See the Goodcharlotte Sucks thread....

Emo and pop has ruined what this country now calls rock in roll....on the upside there are some good metal bands out there....just rock really is dead....gone and replaced...

Agreed on the Modest Mouse thing. The World At Large kicks obscene amounts of ass

personally i think Nirvana was the turning point.
For the 1st time 'alternative' was embraced by the mainstream.
(i use alternative for the lack of a better name)

After Nirvana proved bankable a ton of bands jumped on the gravy train. Pearl Jam, then Creed, then every other band that wanted to sound like Perl Jam, Nirvana and Creed.
There 'bad ass' edgy bands have become mainstream pop.

With a few rare exceptions that are tough to find rock music has been stagnating like never before. Even the 70's seem brilliant and dynamic now compared to the mediochre dribble i hear on the radio now.

I go back to my music roots to hear variety. To hear something other than the tired formula of alternating lines and screamed chorus.

Another big reason is that its hard for older folks to identify with the youth angst themes from today .. it just isnt relevant to us.

I still try to keep current with whats out there.. and i have found a few really decent bands that are new ,,, but they are few and far between.

I'm old and decrepit but I love the new music. As a matter of fact I recently purchased the new Allman Brothers one. and the new Gov't Mule.

Lets face it...the older bands rocked and some still do. I'm not talking metal here...some of the bands you kids mention, I've never heard of. The hardest music I'm into would be Tool or Perfect Circle.

I pretty much never listen to the radio, because if I hear that fucking song again I'm gonna go off....really off.....water tower off. You know the one...that fucking guy butchering Skynyrd's Simple Man.

I did happen to catch a song on the radio that I did like so I went on to cdnow.com to hear clips of the CD. SILVERTIDE is the band, and if your into straight out rock, kinda old Black Crowes....pick up this CD. I'm gonna tonight.
