LOST’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Lands Villain Role in THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Quote:
Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the cast of the sequel Thor: The Dark World as one of the film’s villains. Christopher Eccelston is already set to play the film’s primary baddie, Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves, and Tom Hiddleston is also set to return as the meddlesome Loki.

Now Variety reports that Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be playing Algrim the Strong, a character from the comics who was the most powerful among the Dark Elves. Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be pulling double duty in Thor 2 as he’ll be playing two versions of the same character. In the comics, Malekith coerces Algrim into battling Thor, only to be betrayed and injured by Malekith. Algrim then heals and is transformed into an even more powerful being called Kurse, who is said to be twice as strong as Thor.

Production is getting underway imminently in London, and we recently reported that Kat Dennings will be returning alongside Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard and Rene Russo. Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8th, 2013.

IRON MAN 3 ...first ever official trailer!

Quote:
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.

The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Joss Whedon Has Completed An Outline For The Avengers 2

What makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe such a special thing is the way that all of the wide-reaching stories are all brought together and intertwined with a master plan constantly in mind.

Judging by the end of The Avengers we are all but guaranteed to see the superhero team go up against the powerful alien/god Thanos in the sequel, but that means that Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy will all have to play towards the end of Phase 2. And apparently what that end is going to look like has already been mapped out.

Joss Whedon - who not only turned The Avengers into one of the best comic book movies of all time, but is also set to write and direct The Avengers 2 and has a long term contract at Marvel that will see him shepherd future films - recently sat down for a chat with Entertainment Weekly and not only talked at length about the making of his superhero epic, but also revealed that he is on his way to writing a script for the big sequel. The story says that they met with the filmmaker just a few days after he finished and submitted the first outline for the movie, meaning that the first details about the story are floating out in the universe somewhere at this moment.

The Avengers 2 is scheduled to be released May 1, 2015 and while nothing is official it's expected that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo will return as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk (not to mention other actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner).

Marvel Studios is also in the midst of developing a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, which is set to star Clark Gregg (aka Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker. Whedon will direct the pilot - which is scheduled to go into production early next year - while his longtime collaborators Jeffrey Bell, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon will serve as showrunners should the project be picked up as a series.

Like nearly every good Whedon TV show, S.H.I.E.L.D will be canceled and continue to have a huge cult following.

I'm excited for all of these upcoming movies, as well as S.H.I.E.L.D.

Iron Man 3′ Casts China’s Wang Xueqi As New ‘Dr Wu’: Beijing Filming Starts Monday

Quote:
Marvel starts filming several Iron Man 3 scenes in Beijing on Monday. The studio has just cast leading Chinese actor Wang Xuequi as a new character playing “Dr. Wu”. The highly secretive Marvel has been prepping for the shoot for a week in Mainland China.

It was rumored a few months ago that Hong Kong actor Andy Lau would be joining Iron Man 3 as an ally of billionaire inventor Tony Stark, but he quickly backed out. Then several online comic book sites claimed 64-year-old Xueqi would be a last minute addition taking on the role that Lau had been circling: Chen Lu who is the civilian alias of Radioactive Man.

With a film career that has spanned over 25 years in China’s film industry, Wang Xueqi is what many call the Sean Connery of China. He was often cast in early Fifth Generation films, such as Chen Kaige’s Yellow Earth (1984) and The Big Parade (1986), Huang Jianxin’s Samsara, and Zhang Yimou’s Codename Cougar (1989). He has since carved out a niche in the Chinese market as a character actor. He has recently appeared in award-winning roles in Forever Enthralled (2008) and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009)

Xueqi joins the cast that already includes Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Rebecca Hall. Shane Black is directing from a screenplay by him and Drew Pearce; scheduled to be released in the U.S. and China on May 3, 2013.

Kevin Feige Confirms ANT-MAN as Official Start to Marvel’s Phase Three, Which Will Include DOCTOR STRANGE

Feige recently spoke to MTV about the slate of Marvel films starting in 2015.

Quote:
Ant-Man’ is definitely part of Phase Three. Like ‘Iron Man 3,’ it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie…I’ve known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with ‘Ant-Man’ — we weren’t even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It’s very much an ‘Ant-Man’ origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.

Beyond that… ‘Ant-Man’ is the only one officially announced, but you probably don’t have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we’re toying with and beginning to develop…’Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.

I would say that the exercise of this film [Iron Man 3] is very much standalone, more so than any ‘Iron Man’ film since the first one. But because we are in Phase Two and we’re heading towards another ‘Avengers’ movie, there’s certainly a road that’s being paved — you just might not notice it…While you’re driving on the road, not knowing where it’s going, you might not realize that there are road signs and signals and lane changes that we’re setting up now — they might not be readily apparent the first time you see the movie…In this one, it has less to do with any sort of larger S.H.I.E.L.D. or cosmic overlay, but much more about Tony, his frame of mind, his viewpoint and the things he wants to pursue.
Starting in May, Iron Man 3 will kick off Marvel’s second set of films that will lead to The Avengers 2 in 2015.

Marvel Studios has found its female lead for the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are in talks with Emily VanCamp, who makes the leap to the big screen after starring in such series as ABC’s Revenge, the WB’s Everwood and Brothers And Sisters.

She joins Chris Evans in a sequel that doesn’t have a firm start date, but will be released April 4, 2014.

The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
