M. Night Shalaman is a joker, sixth sense was not a good movie and then they got worse! That kid is a great actor and Bruce Willis is cool, but that movie was lame and since then unbreakable and signs where cinamatic low points to say the least! He puts his name above films like he's john carpenter or some one with years of movie history!
"They called me mr glass", they call you mr twat more like it!

Anyway I totaly agree with the fact that bad classic effects can be cool where as bad CGI is just plain bad!

I agree, Scream killed horror. But Scary Movie 1 (although entertaining) overkilled horror.

Sixth Sense isn't horror though.

I don't even look at them on the same scale. M. Night Shamalan is an eerie suspense director. (I happen to think he's pretty good at what he does, but 'what he does' is NOT horror.) He tells ghost stories. Big difference. Just because there is something supernatural doesn't make it a horror movie. You don't consider the movie 'Ghost' with Patcirck Swayze and Demi Moore a horror movie do you?

Didn't think so.

Hmm I would consider it a horror to have to sit through ghost!

sixth sense is as much a horror as say dark water, ghost movies are considerd horror! amyteville, haunted house, the others, the entity, 13 ghosts, house on haunted hill, rouge, all come under the broad umbrella of horror. just as bon jovi and marilyn manson come under the umbrella of rock!

So you do consider Ghost a horror film just because it has a ghost in it?

Hahaha! Please. I'm afraid I can no longer continue this conversation. If you can't see a HUGE difference between an eerie suspense film and a horror flick, then I'm not even gonna try...

Some ghost movies are horror, some are suspense, some are love stories. A ghost does not equal a horror film. It all depends on the movie itself. I know, for a fact, that every video store I've ever been in has had Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable under 'Suspense'.

P.S. Maybe the reason you think those movies suck is because you went into it expecting a horror film and then were dissappointed when you got an eerie thriller, thereby letting down your expectations. Hey, if I went in thinking it was horror, I would have been pretty down the movie, too.

:) No I consider ghost a romantic comedy!!!

Im a film fan, not a pure horror fan so i dont go to any movie expecting anything until i've seen it!

Sixth sense is a horror film/thriller/supense/ghost movie Scream is a horror film/teen slasher!
Canibal holocayst is a mondo movie, dawn of... a zombie movie etc etc but they are all still sub genres of horror!!!!

When you go in the video store theres no eriee supense section now is there, theres a horror section!!!!!!!!

Im not saying any of these films are the same just they do come under horror.

You can consider m. night Shalaman great if you wish because thats your taste! Like wise I consider him shit cause its not my taste, life would not be so good if we all liked the same thing now would it!

films come under horror, drama , action etc. not all films in these massive genres have to be the same!

Mess!

OK, what I'm about to say may sound boring, repetitive, maybe a bit pretentious, but here I go anyway...

First, about the actual topic... Hey, is horror really dead in the end? OK, I must admit there's an unbearable number of poppy hack and slash movies made for teenies coming out of late, which is horribly limitating at best... But there are always two or three quite laudable exceptions, don't you guys think?

Now, about what is or not a horror movie... Well, what's a horror movie anyway? I wouldn't say The Others, for example, can be said to be one... Simply because it relies more on suspense, on the fact that what comes next is unpredictable, its purpose is not necessarily to scare, even if it does have some pretty scary scenes... I guess the same could be applied to The Blair Witch Project (at least the first one), The Sixth Sense and lots of others...

By the way... The fact that there are no "eerie suspense" shelves doesn't mean much... There's a place that rents movies next to my house which put Idle Hands on the horror section... Do I need to say anything else?!?!

A movie can be horror, scifi, suspense and comedy, or a spoof at the same time.

of cause Steves right many movies cross boundries which is cool as theres no need for movie apartide!

May I just add, I dont realy care what genre the sixth sense falls in, if its that important it can be an "eerie supense" and not a horror! So its not a s**t horror, its a s**t eerie supsense, so we are all happy bunnies now!

Talking of new horror does anyone know what "Switchblabe Romance" is about and if its any good?
