Ugh... Tarantino has his moments, and i even own true romance and pulp fiction, but most of his movies are overwhelmed with useless dialogue.
Plus, he recyles conversations: True Romance: Do I look like a blonde with big tits and an ass that tastes like french vanilla ice cream (rinse, repeat) Then why are you trying to fuck me? Pulp Fiction: Does MArcellas Wallace Look like a bitch? (rinse and repeat again) Then why are you trying to fuck him? This conversation is repeated AGAIN in pulp fuiction when they go to (guess who?) Quentin Tarantino's place. I'm not saying he is a poor writer or director (actor....maybe), but i dont understand all of the hype. Maybe i would be making movies now, too, if i had dropped out during my freshman year...

I don't think there is anyone close though that writes as good of dialogue as him.

it is interesting dialogue, but "good" dialogue drives the plot foward. His is just pointless conversation.

The dialogue is just his schtick. It's what he uses to draw audiences in and make them laugh.
I love all of his films but thought that Kill Bill was the most insubstantial. Tarantino is someone who is talented enough to make a Great American Movie. I keep hoping he will really do it but he just keeps dicking around. Don't get me wrong - Kill Bill was great, and I'm happy that I can see a kung-fu movie on the big screen with a big cast and a big budget. It's disappointing. Hopefully if he keeps dicking around with genre films he'll at least get around to making a horror film. Imagine him doing a faithful remake of Shirley Jackson's 'the Haunting of Hill House.' |
