I've seen it but it's only loosely based on the Sylvia Likens story. There's another film based on the same story called "An American Crime" which is less graphic but stays true to the story, so it's more disturbing in my opinion, because when you're watching it you know it actually happened, which is just awful.
The Conjuring freaked me out because unlike films like Insidious, it didn't have any fake looking demons or a creature with horns/hooves, so it came across quite realistic to me. Most people have heard things/thuds at night or thought that they felt someone touch their leg, etc. so it's kinda creepy
