SOME SPOILERS BELOW

I'm loving this season more and more every episode. This new ep. was a work of art right from the opening scene. The framing of the scene, a dialogue between two people, and one of them shown only in a small mirror behind the other, was masterful. And the performances of Lange and Basset, so subtle and powerful, telling us through their eyes only, that they are both lying to each other.

I have marveled at the show's ability to find personal favorite actresses of mine and giving them meaty roles to play; Mare Winningham, Patty Lupone, and now pulling a classic rock icon out of left field and in a bit of truly inspired metacasting, playing on everything that Stevie Nicks means to us.

I also particularly loved seeing the theramin in use. The mystery of who will be the next supreme keeps me intrigued. I started this season feeling it didn't quite meet up to the first two seasons, but I now feel it's every bit the equal, and if they come up with a mind blowing finale, it may well be the best yet.

It wasn't until I saw some idiot on Facebook proclaiming "Stevie Nicks cannot sing anymore" and "That was embarressing," that my thoughts on her role really coalesced.

Not only was her singing beautiful, it was brilliant, because they weren't presenting Stevie Nicks the popstar, they were presenting Stevie Nicks the witch, the CRONE, and she was weaving a magical spell, keening, crooning a literal spell, passing her magic onto the younger version of Stevie, and that was carried forth in the passing down of the shawl.

Powerful.

This was all very personal for me as I was transported back to the mid-70s when I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert, and of course they performed Rhiannon. This was long before the Cult of Stevie though. Back then, she was just the female singer in the band...

NE, your thoughts are so eloquent - Can't really add much there outside of saying F that person for commenting on Nick's voice; they're missing the point and I think that you've really captured the magic of that scene.

I'm incredibly intrigued with who is the next supreme and I am absolutely in love with Fiona's love story as well as her attempt at making a Deal (such a horrifying yet sad scene at the same time) - It's also interesting to see her path parallel to the Potential Supreme's paths - It's a path of corruption and death - Really interested to see where this season goes.

One thing in particular I loved was that the audio was clearly live. The polished yet disconnected feeling of having a separate studio recording overlaid on the image is always frustrating. Stevie was beautiful, was thrilled that she made a reappearance at the end.

As for the rest of it, what can I say? I guess I shouldn't have been as shocked as I was at all of these developments considering the show has a habit of entering "bat-shit crazy" mode this far in. Nice to feel like characters are expendable again - though it was an interesting story dynamic bringing everyone back to life earlier on, it had the fault of removing much of the risk factor.

HOWEVER, I must admit I'm not majorly bothered about the Witch-hunters. Fearing it'll all boil down to a magic vs guns firefight. Sure it might be an interesting spectacle but what I love so much about AHS is the way simple scenes of dialogue have such power. The Season 2 finale was a masterstroke for just that reason.

I definitely agree with you on the framing, dialogue, and the performances. Plus i thought the Stevie Nicks cameo was great. Im just not liking the story this season. Death's are thrown around for shock value which wasn't done in the other season. If there ends up being a purpose for their deaths (Like in the other seasons where dead characters came back) then i'll be ok with it but right now its just kinda ruining things for me. How am i supposed to find a death scene tragic and worry about the characters when they all just keep coming back? Plus the whole supreme mystery just seems a little predictable to me.
