Well, if I make an error I imagine it's only courteous for someone to point it out to me. It's all good, we all make mistakes, especially when one is typing a million miles a minute trying to keep up with their brains. :P

We need to select EIGHT more, preferably from the DEBATABLE section. If everyone is in agreement, we can toss in those films which have scored 5 votes and 4 votes, which are eight in number, and thus we get our chosen top 20. Or, we can debate over the other films, pick up those which are lower in the vote list with some solid backing, and hammer out the 20 in that way. Let's hear 'em. Oh my... very surprised to see so many really excellent films getting so few votes, like Near Dark, Blue Velvet and Ms. 45.
I recommend all those, BTW, along with Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer Basket Case Videodrome And... dear God.... which 2 out of about 10 worthy choices? Scanners Pet Semetary |

Just submitted my list for the 2000s, and I want to say... looking at a list like the 2000s master list, really should put an end to those who keep crying that horror is dead and such.
Even given the amount of crap, driven by the fact so many films in total were produced, the best of the best reveal something I personally found shocking- horror is back, and with a vengeance. Some of the best horror movies ever made come from the past 12 years. If you eliminate the constant stream of inferior remakes, really bad direct to video drek, American remakes of foreign films, and such... the intelligent viewer can find a lot to like. I cut a lot of really good films from my list of 22. The re-emergence of supernatural storylines, over slashers, is a contributing factor, IMO, as is the amount of quality international films, especially Asian cinema. Horror is back on track, after some dismal times. |

I'd like to back:
From Debatable list: The Fly (1986) - 4 One of the best horror movies of all time. by David Cronenberg Scanners (1981) - 3 (backed by neverending) Amazing and engrossing movie! by David Cronenberg The Howling (1981) - 3 Best modern reality take on werewolves since the Wolfman. The Return of the Living Dead (1985) - 4 Fun, very well made film Christine (1983) - 3 Very sharp and slick horror movie by John Carpenter Videodrome (1983) - 5 (backed by neverending) Amazing original movie by David Cronenberg Day of the Dead (1985) - 3 Better than average. Id like to back from Single Votes List: They Live (1988) How did this only get one vote? I dont recall if that was my one vote or not. Very original script. Ending didn't meet the high standard of the rest of film, in my opinion, but a classic. by John Carpenter Notes: Motel Hell was famous in it's time (i think that's my 1 vote). It's a classic, but I wouldn't say it's in league with The Thing, Aliens, etc. Blue Velvet is classic, seen it many times; but I can't give my backing, only cause I really don't consider it horror. Where to start....
The Changeling: The fact that this isn't an automatic selection is the biggest shock of the entire selection process for me.... Was I really the only person who had this in their top 20? I feel like I must've made a mistake and not added it to my list, because I truly cant believe no one else voted for it.... It amongst the best the era has to offer, easily. This is one of the most perfect haunted house movies and is absolutely overflowing with atmosphere and tension. George C. Scott is outstanding and is aided by a fine supporting cast, including the great Melvyn Douglas. The séance scene is probably the best example of a scene that has been recycled countless times in horror.... No blood and gore, just pure horror. If you don't vote for it, then at least go out of your way to watch this movie, because it really is a true classic of the genre. If I could only back one movie to make the top 20 it would be The Changeling, without question. Other's that have been backed that I'd like to support: Scanners Demons Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer There are a few more movies that I'd like to back (The Blob, Basket Case, Hellraiser II!!!) and throw my support behind, but I'd rather wait until the other listed movies find their way into the top 20 first.... One more thing I want to reiterate is: If you haven't watched The Changeling, go watch it before it's too late to get it in the top 20 and if you have, then how did it not make your top 20?! :p |
