I've been watching and listening to this one a bit over the days. I'm trying to find the good parts. Really attempting to see if it's worth owning. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of those actresses who should be able to make a movie worth owning by herself. But this is The Thing. A prequel and in some ways remake of one of the best sci-fi horror movies. A movie that really takes away from the opening of Carpenter's The Thing if you've never seen it before. The 2011 version has good acting, a good soundtrack, and even the CGI isn't that bad. But that deep feeling of dread and paranoia is gone. Or it is certainly no where near as strong as in the Carpenter version. I can't bring myself to own this movie despite all of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's strong scenes. I even think her intro humming "Who Can It Be Now?" is pretty cool. I'll leave with a good two part video review I found which breaks down many of the problems with the 2011 version of The Thing.

I totally love the Thing...the first one anyway, I haven't see the new one as the first one would take a lot of beating so why bother!

Not half as good as imax 3d, but still madly in love. My mom shit a brick at the end, she's an Alien fan boy like myself and I was so happy I got to show her the movie.
I still haven't seen this yet....must watch it soon!

Werewolf:The Beast Among us - 19th century village being menaced by werewolf yarn, pretty average and ultimately forgettable. 5/10

Cargo - Swiss sci fi thriller where the crew of a space freight ship discover their cargo is not what they thought and neither is their destination.

The film was solid on all levels, the story was interesting, the design was good and the cast were competent. It just lacked a little something extra to make it really standout. 7/10

Watched that myself about a year or so ago, thought it was pretty good too...Good atmosphere to the movie, although the ending kinda just fizzled out for me and the CGI outside the ship towards the end of the movie was a let down. Felt like it went from dark, moody sci- fi to TV movie, which was a real shame. Still enjoyed it though.

Just watched a movie I had never heard of before called "Prometheus" from 2012. Seems to have slipped under the radar and is directed by a man named Scott Ridley.

9/10

Nothing like a Punisher night to test out a new premium sound card and a fantastic speaker system.
Head & ears still ringing.

Quarantine 2: Terminal.

I thought this one was pretty good. I love the stuff on the small airplane. This isn't a reality/found footage thing either which was surprising. I thought the original Quarantine was ok. But wasn't really needed as it was for the most part the same as [REC]. Maybe English audiences really hate reading subtitles. Anyway, the lead actress in Quarantine 2 is good. I believed the performances which is what matters. If you like the fast rage type zombies this is a good one.

Grimm Love - same story as the movie "Cannibal" by Marian Dora (which I also own and watched recently) about a man who searches through the internet for a person willing to be cannibalized, of course somebody replies. A quick google search will let you know it's all based on a true story. Grimm Love focused more on the story behind the two men involved. Keri Russell, while hot, is involved in an unnecessary feeling side story about an American traveling to Germany to research the story for her thesis. She gets the tape, watches it, which leads to one of the most awkward rushed endings I'd ever seen.

Cannibal- focuses on the acts committed by these two men, in graphic detail. One of the most infamous facts of the story is one attempting to bite the penis off of the other, then after removing it with a knife, feeding it to the man whom's penis it was. In the beginning of the movie "Feed" I believe this story was explored a bit as well.
