I don't give enough of a shit about the Oscars for my blood to boil no matter who wins. I generally expect the winners to be less deserving than some of the other nominees so when it happens, I just shrug and figure they fucked up again. That being said, Citizen Kane shouldn't have won anyway. That has to be one of the most boring and over-rated pieces of shit ever set to film.

Nothing I like ever wins. If it did, Machete and Piranha would be up for the bulk of the awards this year and Bruce Campbell and Sid Haig would be getting the lifetime achievement awards.

Rocky - beat Taxi Driver, Network, and All The President's Men
Kramer vs. Kramer - beat Apocalypse Now
Ordinary People - beat Raging Bull
Driving Miss Daisy - beat Born On The Fourth Of July and Do The Right Thing
Dances With Wolves - beat Goodfellas
The English Patient - beat Fargo

I haven't even started on the other categories. What Oscar travesty made your blood boil the most?
and how about Forrest Gump beating Pulp Fiction & Shawshank Redemption?:D

Anyway, Oscar has become a highly biased and somewhat politically motivated...the most overrated Award program today. An entertainment fest for a group of people that they organized and maintain just for their own recreational purpose. Don't care about it anymore.

News Flash- it's ALWAYS been biased and politically motivated. And it's not about stars having a party for their amusement- it's called MARKETING.

That said- I don't begrudge the industry doing what it can to turn a profit. It's a fun show to watch if you don't get too involved, and to many of the winners the award is sincerely appreciated.

I still enjoy watching the Oscars, despite their flaws. It's not as clueless as the Grammys.

Do you think Ricky Gervais was thinking the same thing when he turned up at the Golden Globes and pissed everybody off? It was fucking funny!:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBvBxv8btSM

It's a non-issue. He didn't "turn up" - he was hired to host the show. He hosted it last year as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he hosted it next year. All the blustering afterwards sure garnered a lot of press, didn't it? Tell me- last year were you watching clips of the Golden Globes weeks after the show? No, I didn't think so.

Yup - people seem to have short memories and forgot he did it the year before.

My problem was that Alfred Hitchcock nor Charlie Chaplin never really got what they deserved. Other than that, I just like watching them and seeing what I got right and what I got wrong, nothing to stress over.
