A bit of bragging and a little inspiration.
So today, after months of waiting, I got offered my promotion. Getting a promotion is always special to the individual, but this one puts me on a certain high that I've never quite felt before. I'm kind of at a loss for words.
A lot of you know where I work. The where isn't really that important if you don't. I can sum it up in two words: Corporate America. The place where a lot of people go to die because it pays you well enough to live a mostly comfortable life, but offers little room for growth unless you play the game. There is a very low glass ceiling there, and most people never get to even see what the bottom side of the chairs look like on the next floor. Yet today, at approximately 10:30am Pacific Time, I shattered the ceiling. They offered me the job that very rarely (and I mean very rarely) ever gets offered to people without Bachelors degrees. The man who shook my hand to congratulate me has a Masters degree from Harvard. I work with all kinds of these people. The job description even dictates "Bachelors degree a must, Masters preferred." I will forever keep the quote he, perhaps ironically, gave me. "Show those college kids what you can do." What is the job title? It's not really that important. Corporate demands on higher positions are so ridiculous that I'd be surprised that anyone even bothered. Yet, I went against all of these people and succeeded. They had to get a written approval from the VP of the company before they could offer me the job. Enough about the bragging rights, though. Even though I'm a corporate whore, I did it in spite of all of the requirements. In other words: It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. I feel akin to our friends Rod and Doc right now, in the fact that I beat the odds and did what I felt was right with my life. Do I feel like a sell out? Not at all. I've always stood by my principles and have never done anything to compromise my integrity. Fuck my story. I just want those to know who do all that they can every day that it might take a while, but you never have to sell your soul to get what you want. That's not an insult to anyone who is going to college or has a degree (the closest I got was a few writing scholarships) I just want those of us who choose to self study and try to make the most of it that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Well, that's enough sap to cover an all you can eat IHOP buffet. Carry on. :)

Congrats, old chum. This is the first huge step of your career. Good thing you went all out in the interview and let them see your true potential. I know they made the right decision. Now you have to justify them.
Hope you achieve more. Much more. Keep kicking that corporate ass good!

CONGRATULATIONS! It's definitely a tough ride up the corporate ladder, especially in this economy, ESPECIALLY when they have "Masters degree blah blah blah" all over the job listing... That takes a HELL of a lot of hard work. Congratulations and good luck... AND GET TO SENDING THE GODDAMN PACKAGE.:p
