What if they didn't have any weapons? If they did, that seems like a pretty bad place, so with some prior knowledge I would bring a gun or a knife for sure.

well the scenario is you have no weapon, and you don't know anything about the thugs or victims. the "victims" could be child molesters and the thugs could be carrying automatic weapons for all you know.

Well if they DID have guns? I don't see why they wouldn't just shoot the man and get it over with. Well, for sure I would help the woman, then call the police.
