Horror Dot Com Productions
So, I've been thinking, and re-thinking. I have come to a conclusion; We have the people here to do it, why don't we make an actual movie!?
We all see, and watch half the crap that's fed to us, and we think to ourselves, "I can do better than that". So why don't we? We have people with experience here. And I'm sure we could somehow scrape up the cash to do something. What/who is there, that we don't have, that we would need? |

Money that people are willing to put in. Only a few people live close enough to each other that meeting up would be easy, so others would have to pay a lot to drive/fly.

Besides money, because this isn't something that has to happen in a year. It can be in production for a long time. Which would also make for a better film. The money aspect out of the way, what else are we lacking?? |

I think it's a good idea in concept, but probably a bit to idealistic. Not hard to collaborate on a script from halfway around the world, but the actual filming could be a nightmare.
Still...I'm willing to contribute. You're right VC, there's a ton of talent around here. Worth a shot if we can get shit organized.

I just started thinking about it, the way we all rag on movies, and say they could have done this better, blah, blah, blah. Why don't we just do it, and be done with it? Idealistic, yes. Possible, yes. The biggest thing is to keep the drive on for it. I would also suggest tackling one thing at a time. If anyone is actually up for doing this, teams would need to be in order. People placed in certain groups, to work on certain aspects of the film. Some peoples contributions, would come much later than others. But I think it would seriously be worth a shot. And who knows? With everyone here's combined knowledge of horror films, we may just make the perfect horror film. Right on Return! |

A tiny, crappy film is easy.
A kick ass movie is hard even with plenty of cash... done on a shoestring it is nearly impossible. I'd say the minimum it would cost to make a really good, really cheap film is around $10,000. Think about good cheap films, like BLAIR WITCH PROJECT or THE SIGNAL. Aiming for anything lower will result in run-of-the-mill youtube crap. Just never forget that as soon as money gets involved, people are going to want to see a return on their investment, so contracts, waivers, residual scales, etc would have to be set up. Making films is more about facing daily rejection & frustration than the actual filming... and if that still doesn't deter you then have fun and go for it!

Yes, contracts, etc., would definitely come into play. But some of the initial start, as far as writing, can be a group effort to start with, in their spare time. And that would not require much, if any, money to do. I'm also figuring, that by the time the basic story and script are written, approved by everyone, and given the go-ahead, it will be at least a year or two. So no physical filming would even begin for that long. We could also do some kind of prize raffles, and donations to collect money for filming. I honestly think it can be pulled off. But it's not a one-man job. I'm looking at you, members of HDC. Which of you will step forward, and face this challenge? |

However far this should get, I'll read anything people come up with. I'd recommend forming commitees and trying a short. Say four of us get together to form a script development commitee, then another couple of us who live within range form an equipment and preproduction commitee and actually film this sucker if it passes the final stages of script development.
