Compare that to what I watched like TMNT, Defenders of the Earth, He-Man, Dungeons and Dragons, Grange Hill et al and they used to say exactly what you're saying. That my fav kids shows were rubbish and theirs taught them lessons and meant something.
I think those are way more awesome, no matter what.
The 80's kids had cooler cartoons (not to mention the theme songs), action figures, and the best children/phantasy films of all...I don't think it was about the message, c'mon, when prince adam started talking at the end, you turned that shit off. Voltron...HAD no message.
The era just rocked.
...and I maintain, the shit I've seen since has been on a downward slope, why?
Because I can still watch, and prefer the aforementioned shows to anything today.
I mean c'mon..
Beyblade? Pokemon? Card Captor? Every Nicktoon that looks just like the last one?
The two most acceptable cartoons I've seen come out in ages are the current spider-man and x-men ones...but even THEY had better versions, back in the 90's...which wasnt BAD for cartoons, when you take invader zim into account, but still the beginning of a downward spiral.

and the younger kids, what theyre showing them nowadays on tv is like something I'd expect in a special ed class.

Ive got so many of the 90s X-men on VHS, taped straight off the TV, and Ive seen the newer one which just does not compare at all.

My son loves some of the stuff around today, Ben 10 and Grim Adventures especially. Im sure the is some good stuff around but there are so many channels now that most are filled up with shite.

I grew up on Nickeloden.Pete and Pete,Are You Afraid of the Dark?,Rocko, Angry Beavers.I also watched alot of TMNT and even had a small window of liking Power Rangers.I also loved MIghty Max(at least I think that was the name).

But now I look at cartoons today and my lord there is some stuff out there that make me wonder what kind of drugs the people that comes up with these shows are taking.

Denver the Last Dinosaur was awesome. It proved that sunglasses and a baseball cap can pass anything off as human.

By the way, I found these on Wikipedia. It's weird how the He-Man guy is totally drinking the Kool-aid, while the Transformers guy is all about toys.

I loved pretty much all of Nick's shows. I would make a point to be home on Saturday nights so I could watch SNICK. "Are You Afraid of the Dark" was by far my favorite, as I was always a horror buff at heart. I have the first 2 seasons on DVD as well as the "Freaky Favorites" DVD. The only other Nick DVD I have is Clarissa.

"Hey Dude" was another favorite of mine.

I enjoyed Nicktoons as well, all of them. Rugrats was probably my favorite at the time, but looking back I can't even pick.

And of course, the game shows. I loved watching reruns of them on Nick GAS up until a year or two ago when they changed the network and did away with them. Sigh... Finders Keepers was awesome.

Other than Nick shows, I was into the really popular sitcoms, like TGIF shows.
