Ok. I didn't know that Superstition Mountain was actually part of a real mountain range; that makes me feel significantly better about the title.
I think that the newer teaser is a significant improvement, though I honestly think that the short cut of the teens making out honestly does not fit in with the rest of the teaser. You make a good point that you're trying to reach the 15 - 25 year old male bracket, but a the same time, the fact that this is being set up as a documentary is going to reach out to other demographics. To tell you the truth, there is a part of that that will flag down the indie horror enthusiasts, and it is those demographics that are going to be wary of the teen partying bit. If you are trying to target the 15 - 25 year old male bracket, how will you get them interested in actual interview snippets? I feel as though you might be splicing in the sex simply to keep that bracket interested, but maybe you should considering taking this film to a higher level (not trying to belittle going after that age bracket; they are definitely a demo that is targeted constantly in horror; I just feel that doing it with a documentary is a little risky). As a viewer I am interested in the documentary aspect, but uninterested in the teenage boy aspect. It's very possible that the teenage boys would feel the same way; Sure, the sex is appealing, but what's with those old guys? I know I'm being flip, but just something to consider. |

As that kid in The Ring would say - It's a conundrum.
Ideally we want to appeal to everyone, but at the end of the day teenage boys are the most important market, which is why the kissing shot is in there. But I'm still down for fine-tuning anything in any way. That's why I'm asking for advice here and tweaking it before we drop press releases at Fearnet and such. Both versions of the trailer can be seen at our Youtube channel if anyone else has any ideas. The longer version is the new one incorporating CronoGrl's input. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/Minor9media ChronoGrl - your insight is great, and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me out. I am planning on adding you to the 'thanks to' list in the credits of the film. If you want me to put in your real name (or not put you in at all) let me know. You can reach me privately at [email protected]. |

I think we were just caught by a smarter than average viral marketer.

No! I knew this was going to be a problem eventually...
There is a British play coming out called Superstition Mountain. This has NOTHING to do with us. Really. It draws from the same history - the Lost Dutchman's Goldmine, but that's where we part ways. Basically, if you're watching some trailer that looks like a long-lost 3 Stooges episode and has some guy's naked ass hanging out, it has NOTHING to do with us. We own all the rights and the URLs and such, and we've considered sending these guys a cease and desist, but we figured we'd let them do their thing and nobody would notice. I forgot that you kids is so smart and you can work search engines. Maybe we do need to figure out how to avoid this confusion. Every single minute of our film is a documentary - it is 100% unscripted and real. I am NOT some viral marketer. You'll see, I swear. If I was a "smart" viral marketer would I be wasting this much time here, where I'm getting 20 new people to check out the trailer? Hell no. I'm here because I need to know about these issues before we drop press releases and I've worked on this thing for so long that I obviously can't see the forest for the trees. Thanks for the cynicism, tho. You've opened my eyes to the fact that our audience really is this incredibly jaded. I don't blame you. After Look and Cloverfield and Blair Witch, et al, it's to be expected. I think we all just figured that somehow you'd magically know that it was real. If you really want to check us out dig deeper. The three people you see interviewed in the trailer are Ron Feldman, the author of Crooked Mountain and owner of OK Corral, Inc., a company that's been guiding people into the Superstition Mountains to search for the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine for decades; Randy Wright, a young prospector, and Jack San Felice, author of When Silver Was King and co-owner of the legendary Silver King Mine. Their links are at our website - www.minor9media.com - and I'm sure you can probably find pictures of them somewhere online. Just Google them if you don't trust us. They've been around way longer than we have, and they are REAL. So - what would make you believe? I can prove it to you here, at length, but I need a way to convey that to the masses in 59 seconds. Is there something else I could put in the trailer that would make you take it seriously? |
