Off the top of my head I'd say
The Devil's Backbone Hatchet Grindhouse Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon The Descent Bug Roman Session 9 May Dawn of the Dead Remake Shaun of the Dead 28 Days Later Dog Soldiers And a special nod to Pan's Labyrinth...really a fairy tale, it had serious horror elements and is an amazing film.

it seems like all the best horror movies of the 2000s, at least for me, were ones that i was skeptical about whether they'd actually be good or not at first.
except grindhouse. i was pumped about that from day one.

Although we're always complaining about how hollywood has no more good ideas and that the "golden" dys are gone, but after actually looking at some of these, I've realised that amonst all the crap, there is a gem.
