Matinee?
Has anybody else here seen Joe Dante's Matinee? John Goodman is great as a William Castle type exploitation mastermind and the message about horror movies and real world horror alike is interesting. Very funny, full of heart, what you expect from Joe Dante. I was just asking because it seems like it kind of crept under the radar.

I loved Goodman's performance, but found the film rather flat...like most of Dante's work.

There's a certain amount of bright and quirky that can be annoying, I think, but I appreciate his stance as a fanboy director and the creator of Gremlins, and for me that lent a lot of credibility to a movie about the 60s creature feature experience. The romantic subplot was, as romantic subplots tend to be, rather extraneous, but it's one of the better movies about movies I've seen.
