Went to see the simpsons movie.
Pretty much tops most of the eps from the last few years. Great animation, decent storyline, not just full of backwards references, two long time things confirmed, lots of laughs.

Haven't been inclined to buy a simpsons boxset yet, but I might go ahead and pick this one up.

Yet another "stay to the end of credits" films, for at least one extra you might not wanna miss...

Danger: Diabolik (1968)

Mario Bava directs this fumetti (Italian comic) adaptation of super-thief Diabolik with super-stylized flair. Sure the story is preposterous, but John Phillip Law as the skin-tight-leather-clad criminal Diabolik is always cool and his willing accomplice/arm candy Marissa Mell is, as Eva Kant is, as my old man would say "easy on the eyes." One might call it campy, but the material never really makes fun of itself - it is simply lighter than air, like a James Bond flick in which you root for the villain, because he's so much cooler than Bond ever was.

And then there's the Ennio Moricone score that bounces and grooves. Good stuff.

I'm recommending this to V, 'cause I think you'd totally dig this.
Thanks, pal.:) You know my choice exactly to a T.

Yojimbo is one of my all time favorites, and alongwith Sanjuro, Rashomon and Ran, ranks very high in my list. Kurosawa is one of my all time top 5 directors, because I love the way his characters bring intensity to the screen, and his beautiful use of camera work to add depth to his re-telling of the scripts makes me go weak in my knees. (Toshiro Mifune is one of my all time fav actors for that reason, if for no other)

Sounds great, Sean. Thanks for the recommendation. Will check this one out asap.

The Hills Have Eyes 2

Well, overall it was pretty cool. Plenty of gore, decent acting, much cooler story than the original HHE2, but it had one major drawback... I just don't find anything remotely entertaining about rape scenes and this has a couple.

Lone Wolf McQuade (1983)

Looking for a mindless 80's action flick? You could do worse than this gem of spaghetti western-influenced chop sockey. Let's see, lots of guns? Check. Renegade cop on the edge? Check. A young and not-so-welcome partner? Check. A sweet young daughter in jeopardy? You got it. Training montage? fuck yeah.

Oh, and this one stars Chuck Norris and David Carradine with the lovely Barbara Carrera as the femme fatale who'll screw you blue and then vacuum up afterward. Throw in a demented dwarf, a morricone-esgue soundtrack, stilted dialogue, a meandering plot and more roundhouse kicks than you can shake a stick at...good times!
