Weird Naming thing...

I bought "zombie flesh eaters" which I'd never seen, the other day.
There was some trailers on the dvd, including one for this film, and zombie holocaust (also not seen).
So, I watched them.
For some reason, the film I'd bought was previewed under "zombie"
and the other one, zombie holocaust, was under "doctor....?something?...medical deviant"?
What's with all the naming differences?

Also...I know I've seen sequels for "zombie", does that mean they're sequels to the one I have now?

One more thing...seems I quite like these gore filled 70's zombie stuff...any further suggestions for films like this?

Yeah these movies were known by a number of names.

Zombie Holocaust was also known as Dr Butcher, MD (or Dr Butcher Medical Deviate) as well as other things

Zombie Flesh Eaters was also known as Zombie, or Zombi 2. Very confusing...

Not sure exactly why they had so many different names - possibly marketing reasons in different countries? I'm sure someone here will be able to shed some light...

One difference is some movies are re-named and recut/edited for release in different countries. I believe that is the case with these two movies, but can't remember.

yes, i know so much is so ordinary, so coarse, and so vulgar. but survival is simply not enough. nowhere near.
what's the point of surviving? survive what? don't you realize you're going to die? f*ck your missions, your crusade.
i demand and expect quality.
right now, once and for all.
quality time.

From IMDB -

The "original" Zombi was, in fact, George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1978). When Dario Argento released Dawn of the Dead in Italy, it was renamed Zombi (Zombie in Italian). Following the success of Dawn of the Dead in Italy, this film's producers decided to rename this film to Zombi 2 to cash in on the success of Zombi (Dawn of the Dead) by making it seem like a sequel.

As regards the other question...the answer is, well yes and no both. The naming of many movies of that time in this zombie-gorefests from Italy is really confusing.

There was indeed a Zombi 3 aka Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 (1988) made by Lucio Fulci, and Burial Ground: Nights of Terror (1981) was also called Zombie 3: Le Notti del terrore in Italy.

Then there was Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1973) which was also called Zombie 3: Return of the Living Dead.

Zombie Creeping Flesh aka Virus (1980) is called Zombi 4 and Zombi 5: Ultimate Nightmare both.

Another movie, A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973) goes under Zombi 4: A Virgin Among the Living.

The movie Zombie Flesh Eaters 3, called so in the UK, is called Zombie 4 also.

Killing Birds (1987) was called Zombie 5: Killing Birds.

And so was Revenge in the House of Usher (1982) called Zombie 5.

This all comes from the releases in different countries, in Italy, USA, UK etc. Most of it is marketing gimmick of course. The name Zombi/Zombie sells, ergo the names.

As regards other movies of similar nature (zombie gorefests), I just gave you a set to start off with above.;)

Look for Return of the Living Dead series, The Gates of Hell aka City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery, Zombie Holocaust, etc.

I ll add more later.
