Most of the crime/thriller novels in Italy during the 60's and 70's had yellow covers.....so people began calling Italian thriller films GIALLO.

I think the killer in Dirty Harry was inspired by the zodiac murders?
when i ask are these movies giallo i mean would they be at home in that category in relation to their content. do they have the feel of a giallo? i understand that the very definition of giallo excludes these movies from being labelled as such. the idea was to provoke feedback on the similarities that can be drawn. has this exclusively italian type been influential or inspirational and, if so, do you have evidence?
