Read and say...Whats your take on this?

...makes for some interesting reading...

http://www.moviehole.net/news/200706...cial_edit.html

highlights :-

"...Sequels – even bad ones – sell. They make money. Shit loads of it. And that’s why we’re starting to see a whole bunch of disappointing sequels and so on. If studios already project the high returns on the film they’re not going to go to any extra special effort to make sure they’re actually good; that would just be… a waste of time, wouldn’t it?. There’s a reason films like “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, “Shrek the Third”, “Terminator 3”, “The Matrix Reloaded”, “Spider-Man 3” and “Blade Trinity” weren’t half-as-good as their predecessors…. And that’s because by-and-large it was the person with the least appreciation for the audience, with the thinnest creative root growing through their body, that was probably calling the shots on the movie (Usually the studio accountant)..."

"...THE EXORCIST 2: THE HERETIC: I do admire a sequel that doesn't mimic its forefather but this one strayed way too far from its source and the result was an incoherent mess. Silly mind melding devices, a ridiculous giant flying grasshopper demon, grating esoteric inclined dialogue and a snore-inspiring narrative; watching Exorcist 2 was akin to Paris Hilton in the sack: flat, pretentious, lazy and painfully redundant i.e. a dead lay..."

"...I'm going for The Crow 2: City of Angels. Never before have I seen such a fantastic and emotional original, completely destroyed by such a terrible sequel. Everything that made the first film was ruined the second time around, the setting, the acting, you name it, it sucked. And to tarnish such a classic by the late Brandon Lee was nothing more than an insult in my opinion. Thankfully I never saw the 3rd otherwise I may well have voted for that..."

"...Alien 3 - Should of never been made. How the hell would an alien egg get aboard the Suluco when the queen detached her egg sac before chasing Ripley and Newt. Shitty direction. Did the writer even watch the first two freakin movies??? Plus CGI doesn't cut it..it all looked fake. Alien Resurrection - Should of kept Ripley dead. Start with something new and refreshing. Special effects were garbage. Aliens VS Predator - Another hollywood blunder. If you ever get a chance, read the book series put out by darkhorse. 100 times better and nothing to do with shit on earth. This was another Hollywood piece of shit. WTF PG-13!?! The Predators looked like linebackers and the queen alien was as big as Godzilla. God, hollywood is CLUELESS! Terminator 3 - Garbage, should of left it with 2. Bad direction, bad acting, bad everything..."

"...The worst of the worst when it comes to films cashing in on already bad movies, has to be Spiderman 3. It was seemingly so quickly thrown together. Each of the actors seemed to be just collecting a pay check, I mean when you look at other comic films it seems that most of the actors are enjoying the chance to play a hero little kids look up too. The first two spider flicks caught that, this one…it seems each of the characters just wanted to collect their pay and go home. It was like each main character was looking at the camera and read their lines. They then went right back to the trailer so that they could go home..."

"...Alien 3 is easily the worst sequel ever made, what the hell were they thinking? The first film had one alien and very few weapons, it worked because no one had seen anything like it before.
Then Aliens came about and everyone had a connection with Ripley, this time there were hundreds of aliens and quite a few weapons, we got more connections with Newt, Hicks and even Bishop, the story was growing and people could relate to the dynamics. Then the teaser trailer for Alien3 came out and said "On earth everyone can hear your scream!" Wow, could it get any better?
Then Alien3 was shitted onto the big screen, it should have been set on earth with more connections with possible gradual dramatic loss with more aliens, more weapons but no, we get two main characters dead before the film even starts, a third character wasted and back to one alien and few weapons again with a lot of people dying that probably deserved to be dead anyway.
I hate Alien3 because there was so much potential for the films to go further, it was quite obvious where to take it, the studio wanted to save money and pander to Sigourney's wierdness. It a shame because we as an audience lost more than the studio did.
There are some rubbish sequels out there but I think Alien3 has been the one that damaged the films that came before it and where they had to go after it, the most. I hate it!
..."

There are some neat trailers...be sure to check out the top 20 at the bottom...

What do you say, guys?

I totally agree whole heartedly on this..
here is my list.

Amytivlle horror..parts 2/3/4
Jaws 2/3/4
[soz all you freddy/jason/mike myers fans]
these continuous 'ooh lets see what more we can do with these characters
'yawn' material..
from dusk till dawn..should never have been made at all..
The Grudge..too predictable
Saw..should've stayed as a oncer
Shrek..i disagree..i liked the sequel cos its actually following a storyline..
looking forward to part 3.
Alien..hrmm..[undecided]
P.O.T.C watched all 3 over the weekend..
kinda liked them..
Ice-Age [the melt down]..loved it..!!
but most definately Spiderman 3..
the biggest disappointment ever..

What these film producers should do is sack thier writers..
fresh mind..fresh ideas.
Some of the above-named movies..my own personal opinion..
needed new actors...new ideas..

and ffs..enough of the zombie movies already..
bring back the classics i say .

i'd be interested to hear of your favourite sequals that weren't money spinners and stayed true to the franchise. the LOTR trilogy springs to mind but then they weren't made consecutively.

Star Wars would have to be my fav...despite being a money maker.

I reckon LOTR
was boring..
it shouldve been based around Sam being the hero
instead of that fucken wuss Frodo..

I do agree with most of what's on that list with a few exceptions ...

Alien 3-Not a great sequel by any means but one of the worst not imo, some of the action sequences were pretty good, the Alien/Dog Hybrid was pretty cool, the prisoners and their "Religion" are quite manacing and the visual style of the movie is quite pleasing.

The Pirates sequels-I havn't seen the third one yet but the second one is very entertaining and very enjoyable, maybe it didn't quite reach the level of the first one but bad sequel?Nay!

X-Men:The Last Stand-Good solid comic book fun, great effects and some top notch action, what's not to like?

I never expect a sequel to be as good as the original film (except for those like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, knowing the story as well as I did, and the overall quality of the first film), and a lot of the time they are completely unnecessary. Sometimes they work, sometimes they are even better. And sometimes they are huge disappointments.

As for the list. Highlander 2 actually makes the top of my worst sequel list as well. There is a reason all involved just ignore that one, and pretend like it never happened....;)
I didn't hate Batman Forever, despite some casting problems, but Batman and Robin was indeed very, very bad.
Never saw Superman 4. Didn't know it existed until very recently.
Exorcist 2, as I have said before, maybe the worst sequel to an excellent film ever made.
The Matrix was a great film, the other two were very disappointing. Not the worst sequels, but they didn't do justice to the story they were trying to tell.
Alien 3, I have never liked this movie, I agree that it is one of the worst, based on the quality of the previous films, but no, not the absolute worst.
Speed 2, I remember nothing about this movie, if it tells you anything.
Jaws IV, hilariously bad.
I disagree with Pirates of the Caribbean, I think they are all very solid, fun films. Though the first one is still the best one.
The Phantom Menace, a complete bore.
X-Men: The Last Stand, like this one too, not up to the quality of the previous ones, but still fun.
The Ring 2, well, I didn't like the first one....and the second one certainly didn't improve.
Blade Trinity.......yeah, its bad....;) Like both of the previous ones though.
Terminator 3, VERY disappointing.....the previous 2 are awesome on all levels.....this one is just a bore.

Actually POTC 3 did seem kind of stretched...it could have easily lost 30 mins and could have been better than what it was...and apart from the Davy Jones character, there wasnt much to write home about except Jack Sparrow, but of course.

Spiderman 3...I have to agree with most parts of it. I dunno but it simply didnt click with me...of course it has awesome CGI and stuff, but the movie just...wasnt Spidey...if you know what I mean...

Exorcist II...blah it sucked...I actually loved Exorcist III much more cuz of the suckiness of II...

Alien 3...totally divided over it...on one hand it took the franchise down by killing off Newt and Hicks, and of course an alien egg inside the spaceship, while the Queen had hitched a ride outside the ship...MINUS her egg-sac...that is a valid point...on the other hand, it did have a really cool alien creature (but that caused it to become an imitation of the original)...plus it brought a perfect end to the Alien franchise...

X3: Last Stand...now this was one movie which disappointed me...I mean I was over the moon when X2 ended, with the hinting towards the Phoenix saga...but X3 was nowhere...Jean Grey/Phoenix didnt do much but stare, stare and more stare...Storm and Rogue were wasted...Cyclops didnt exist...a blue and less menacing Beast...and non-existent Brotherhood...

Jaws The Revenge was absurd...shark chasing the son of the cop who killed the original shark...come on!

Highlander 2, blah it roasted the awesomeness of the original...as did Crow 2...blah at both of em...

Robocop 3...WTF were the makers smoking while they scripted this one? Made Robocop 2 seem way, WAY more decent than it actually was...

Batman & Robin...geezbus...if I ever could shoot a person, I d shoot Joel Schumacher and go to prison happily for this...

lol. sam should've been written out of the movie. his entire homo-erotic crush on frodo and the subsequent love triangle that ensued when smeagol turned up was very distracting. :) sam was an unrequited jealous little bitch!:D
