Been away...had good reason.
Hello friends..been away since January...my grandad who is like my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Jan of this year, so like most relatives I packed his old ass up and sent him to the nursing home...
Sad how most people do that, but no, what I did was renovate my downstairs w hardwood and wider doors and moved him in with us for 4 fantastic months. I am terribly sad to say he died on 4/15...I am proud to say that I loved tha man, he didn't suffer and when he died, his hands were being held by my wife, my 14yo daughter, and me. We miss him more than you can imagine and his leaving has been very hard, escpcially on my kids 14yo and 7yo. If anything I just want to say..if you ever encounter a situation similar to this...please take this person in and just fucking show them that you love them. I didn't know if he'd be here 4 months or 4 years..I didn't care and neither did my family...we wish he'd been here longer. You'll take more out of spending time with someone who is dying and loves you than you will out of 5 years on a job that means jack shit to the world. Anyone out ther who has taken a loved one and put them in the nursing home...visits them 2-3 times a week...then 2-3 times a month...then maybe shows up B-day or something... FUCK YOU! Anyways...I am much stronger now...and I was pretty damn strong before...its good to be back. THanks to a few of you who sent me some emails along the way. Phil

Sorry for your loss PnE. I was in the same situation 10 years ago when my father was diagnosed with lung cancer.Me and my two brothers moved in and took care of him for two months until he passed. Nothing humbles you more than having to change your own fathers diaper.
You have the right attitude and you've taught your kids a good life lesson.Stay strong and get back to posting. |

Hey PnD, my sympathies go out to you and your children, I know how that is I lost my father a year and half ago. I had to be there for my two nieces. You did do the right thing, and everything you posted is true. One thing I relized after was it does make you a stronger person, and a better one at that, it opens up your eyes to the real world. Once again, you guys are in my thoughts and prayers, stay strong!
