help! another name that movie... with rats!

Okay, so this movie has got to be late 70s to early 80s. It used to be on TV allll the time when I was a kid!

I don't remember much, I think it takes place either on a farm or somewhere suburban (I say farm because I seem to remember lots of plaid flannel shirts on the men). It centers around a family (mom, dad, son, daughter) and suddenly there are a lot of rats around the house. The little girl wants to keep one as a pet (a white one I think). At one point a rat goes down the garbage disposal and the insides are green.

Sorry this is so vauge, I haven't seen it since I was about 6 years old.

The main point is: the big climactic scene involves the little girl in bed and there is the giant salivating rat slowly crawling towards her and up onto the bed. I always used to get too scared and change the channel just at the point when he is leaning over her with teeth bared, and then I'd flip back a few minutes later when everything is okay.

It's been over 20 years! I NEED to know what happens! Please, someone, tell me what movie this is...

The movie is called Nightmares (1983), and the segment you are referring to is the 4th segment, called "Night of the Rat".

Originally made for TV, they were deemed too bold for the TV screen and so bundled together as a movie with 4 stories in one.
