I dont think it's the actual gore factor of those two movies [Hills Have Eyes, Hostel] I think it's the way they do it. I'm not a very big fan of torture as the premise of the movie. I mean I can handle one maybe two scenes of toture that help along the story and unviel the personality of a character but an entire movie of it just makes me antzy.

With horror I like mine classic and old school, the killer runs after you, you scream and most of the time you either die you escape in some very strange ways. And when I say killer I mean all the bad guys not just killers, like ghosts, supernatural beings, aliens, dolls, evil children, etc.

I sure as hell hope they put out the NC-17 version when it gets released on DVD. I'll be all over that one.

You guys are forgetting about my most anticipated horror movie of 2007 too... 28 Weeks Later. (Well, aside from Grindhouse.) I have very high expectations for that one. Hills 2 lookds pretty sweet too. I won't be in any rush to see Saw 4 or Hostel 2 though. I'll rent them when they hit stores, but I don't see myself rushing out to theatres to see either of those. As for Halloween, honestly, I'd be surprised to see it released in 2007 because as far as I know they just started working on it, but once it comes out, I'll definately be checking that one out too... I just hope Zombie doesn't turn it into a gorefest and lose the mystique of Michael Myers. I'm very weary of that...

When I went and saw The Number 23 the other night it had a small thirty second to a minute preview of Hills 2 and I actually covered my eyes and ears when I watched it. And it wasn't even that bad. I just knew what the movie was even before the credits rolled...the movie impacted me so dramatically the first time that I can't even watch the second movie's trailer.

It's version where the two mutants from the first movie are out in the desert...the camera is set on an angle lowered growned level and all you see is the two mutants walk into the shot dragging bodies behind them across the desert. That's it. And yet I was so freaked out cause I knew what movie it was that I couldn't even watch it!

It'll be 'R'.

Do you know how many movies a year are threatened with an NC-17 rating and forced to cut? A shitload.

And I think if Saw IV, Hostel part II, Hills Have Eyes II, and a Halloween remake are the only things we have to look forward to, this year's gonna suck for horror, just like last year.
Yes, when Grindhouse hits theatres it will be rated R. Although when it comes to DVD it will be NC-17. I read that from rottentomatos so I know that for a fact. Quentin and Robert had to cut out tons of the movie to get the R rating.

As far as remakes go, I thought it was pretty good. I'd even go so far as to say I liked it.

Did I like it better than the original? No way.

Do I think it merits a sequel? Notta.

I read the interview in Fangoria magazine with Robert. Pretty insightful. The movie had to be severly cut down - and censored. They said they had so much cutting to do that they were glad of the stylistic form they were using. They were able to simply cut sections of the film by using "missing reel" - allowing the cuts to be abrupt.

Robert stated that the original versions WILL be going on DVD - fully intact. Apparently the runtimes are pretty long when played in full, another reason cuts had to be made...

People are speculating 4 or 5-disc special editions. 1 disc for each film, 1 for each film's special features, and a 5th for additional material or the inclusion of the Machette straight-to-dvd movie based on the fake trailer.

isn't this the movie that the director stated in an interview was so gory that some of the special effects guys winced when watching back some of the more graphic scenes? or was that hostel 2? looks like i'll just have to buy both asap

I was watching my local news and they have a little entertainment section on the news cast that fills you in on movies, celebs, etc. So there was some award show and the newscaster used the quote "The directors let the cat out of the bag"

So anyway, they talked to the creaters of Saw and they said toben bell will still be jigsaw in the upcoming SAW...

Also they sat down with Rodriguez(sorry if I butchered his name) and Tarrintino about the NC-17 rating

They both started laughing and told everyone that the movie will NOT get NC-17

It's a pity that studios don't release the R & NC-17 versions. There are many arthouse theaters that would be willing to host the NC-17 versions in bigger cities (I would assume), whilst the corporate theaters could get their wholsome, family friendly R rated versions so they're not considered as houses of ill repute.
