I'll add a couple of 'out there' ones...
'Sink the Bismarck' and 'Das Boot'. Preferably the mini-series, but it was edited down into one long film. It's about life aboard a German U-boat - claustrophobic and scary. And very unusual to see a film from the German point of view. There are points in it where you're really rooting for them, and it's so original to 'humanise' the Germans. Brilliant. Also loved Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Schindler's List, Hamburger Hill. |

Das Boot is awesome, good call.
I would also add Catch 22 and Siege of Firebase Gloria.

I'm not too much into war movies either. But I love Glory and Gone With The Wind. Saving Private Ryan was awesome, too.
