Sorry, been without power for a day - crazy fuckin' widstorms here
um... Considering it an imitation of their top grossing film, a major Studio tried filing an injuction to keep this movie off the screen. The injuction was avioded when the powerful director of the Top Grosser insisted that this film was a parody, not a copy.

nope
it spawned a sequel in which the monsters from the original film could suddenly fly. it was remade in the mid 90s, but much of the creature footage was simply recycled from the original it is currently being remade again
