Music for writing

I was wondering what/who you listen too, when you are writing ? I tend to listen to Rob Zombie, Marlyin Manson, Korn, Lamb of God. Manson tends to give me the most fucked up ideas when i'm writing, I Just wanted to see what you guys listened to if anything. I tend to do better when listening to music, as i'm sure it works for you as well.

I like to listen to instrumental or foreign language music - keeps other people's words from leaking into mine. Some of my favorites are...

Sigur Ros
Explosions in the Sky
The Best of Hammer Horror (soundtrack anthology)
Rhythms of Rapture - Sacred Musics of Haitian Vodou

and there's english lyric in this one, but it puts me in a crazy writing mood
Radiohead - Kid A

You write while watching movies? Just as background noise, or do you actually watch?

Sounds distracting as hell.

if i was going to do it ... and i will some day ..

it would be either to Tangerine Dream - or Nash The Slash.

there's no way i could write to anything with lyrics .. definately have to be instrumental - and not too intrusive either.

Danzig, The Misfits, Rasputina, Switchblade Symphony, Cradle of Filth, and some classical.

I also love to put on an old school horror flick; Carnival of Souls, House on Haunted Hill, or something like that.

Personally, some of Nine Inch Nails' quieter stuff, or the quake and/or American McGee's Alice soundtracks (which are from current and former NIne Inch Nails members... Yes, i have a problem)

It is all dark, atmospheric stuff.

Seems like you guys listen to some hardcore stuff while writing and nothing is wrong with that. I'm at the other end of the spectrum though, I listen to a lot of "soft" stuff. Maybe I'm just a little off.
