no actually i was asking you at this particular time.
man thats rough .. being so close to your dad. but like you said - when you have that close of a relationship he'll always been there. in the end memories is all we really have to leave behind. I hope my kid feels the same way about me some day. your dad was obviously doing a lot of things right. |

Well...sorry to hear about your collective cancer-related problems, guys...can't much imagine anything I'd say would do much to change your frame of mind at this point...so, I'll do MY thing here instead...
I take it when a loved one dies/is sick/dying in such a manner, it would get you thinking about your own health and mortality. Some advice. *Eat ginger. FRESH ginger, and lots of it...chop it up in your salads, sandwiches, and cooking. Drink it blended into orange juice (yum). *Get yourself some Omega 3 fish oil tablets, take them regularly. *Try to lower the amounts/ratio of red meat. *Eat more fish, particularly "oily" fish, such as anchovies, salmon (awesome), eel, jackfish, mackrel, pilchards, cod, tuna, swordfish. *Red wine, particularly full bodied, like merlot. Drink a few times a week with meals...excellent levels of antioxidants. *Every time you eat meat or fish, you should be eating DOUBLE that amount of fresh salad or vegetables. *Chillis. The hotter the better. *If you smoke, fuck it right off. *Bananas...pretty much contain the collective amount of nutrients and vitamins of all other fruits combined, and hey, they're tasty as all fuck. *Don't drink excessively, no matter how fun...sure, you can have the occasional completely fucked up drinking night, but every time you do, your body goes through some bullshit. *Green tea...if you think it's a little bland, try it with jasmine tea mixed in...it's great for your blood pressure, liver and bowel function also. *Lower your sugar and caffeine intake massively in one stroke - quit soda...excessive amounts of sugar (found in most sodas) help the body retain fat, when the body retains fat, many a problem can occurr, from simple weight gain/unhealthy weight to diabetes. *Cut down on coffee and regular tea...people really do drink far too much. *Beans, lentils and other legumes = great stuff. *Spinach and Mushrooms, essential. Especially for those leaning more towards vegitarianism. *REGULAR medical checkups...yes, the full ones, no matter how embarrassing this may be, I'd advise an appointment to a doctor every three months, for the works for anyone past the age of 25, and be sure to discuss ANYTHING on your mind that you perceive may be a little off, or a problem. Every three months isn't all that much, and many things that would go wrong would in this case more than likely be detected at early stages. *Excersize...walking doesn't really cut it...power-walking, a little better. Jogging, another step up, bike riding, a LEAP (lower impact on the ankles too, and great fun IMO) swimming is excellent too. Excersize, and do it until you're really FEELING that you've worn yourself a little. Push yourself, but not too much. For a person that does NO excersize, even regular walks around the block is an improvement (although I'd advise more)...you don't have to do this EVERY day, every second day will do wonders for the body, and give you time to rest and recover. Bit of a combination of ideas there...but in my honest opinion, from the things I've learned about nutrition thus far, and from some personal research I've done, some of these are the things one should focus on consuming to drastically reduce their chances of developing various types of cancer, even if they are genetically predisposed to it (Ginger in particular is HUGELY effective here, as are the other items in the gingerium family) Not to mention, a few things in there also help with blood pressure and fat metabolisation (green tea, fish oils), and a lot of them will have you feeling MUCH better in no time at all, higher energy levels, lower fat. Other than that, there's a few general health related ideas in there...if I were to go into everything, it would take some time, but if you want to know why I've mentioned anything I've not explained directly, there's an abundance of information available on the matter, not to mention most educational facilities will run courses on nutrition. Of course, you guys don't have to take ANY of this with you...and, nothing IS 100% for anybody, at any time, any one of us could be struck down with something that could kill us within the week. However, research is behind me on these, they stand as practices that do in fact significantly increase your odds of living a cancer free life, and/or beating cancer in the event it occurs. Well, anyways...that's all I've got for you folks, take from it what you will.

However, I happen to be the biggest proponent for just doing what the fuck you enjoy. And quite honestly, THAT has become even more of a credo since my dad passed. I didn't once question my own mortality or any of that...I felt bad for him thinking about all of the things he never/never will experience. But seriosly, that was a very well-thought out post and I will check it out from time to time.

No worries...just thought it seems like information you (and everyone actually) could use, especially at this time.
You're probably feeling pretty shitty about what's happened in your life just now, but yknow, try to not push the self destruct button TOO hard...have a few drinks and tokes if you needa relax, just kick back and know that no matter how bad you feel, the worst is over, and there's not much you can do one way or another about it...but, that said, I think it's important that you keep your own wellbeing in mind. Get councelling or talk to someone if you need to...I'm not big on that, but I understand it works for some people. All the stuff I've said above pertaining to lifestyle and dietary info, it's not easy...it's far from easy...but it's things that are in the end, doable - and hey, I didn't mean "do every little thing on this list", far from it man, just pick and choose the things you know you're capable of, and move onto the others gradually, if not incorporate bits and peices here and there, 'cos it's all good info, and even trying to squeeze in just one or two for now (ahem smoking would be a great candidate for #1, even if you're just cutting down milligrams and frequency) could make a great difference in your overall health. I know that I've still got to work on most of that list myself, so I know it does seem a tad daunting...ah well, early days yet. Anyways, I hope yknow you don't go crazy with all that's going on, and that any part of what I've said helps you (or anyone reading) out in some way. Have a good 'un, and WB to the forum. - B
