I wouldnt say there all full dvd burns..There are full and then theres just the movie and sometimes its a divx file ..It just depends on what the uploader did.I prefer just the movie as an avi file..My dsl isnt the fastest connection in the world.

Ha - but a popular process that should be so simple proves to be hair-grabbingly complex.

Codecs... converters... burners... it's all given me a right fucking headache. Every single AVI > DVD program I've used has either failed or simply stopped working after a few burns (and not demo versions).

Lately, a film I thought had successfully converted and burned turned out to play the full soundtrack, but the visuals stopped 5 minutes early. As if the sound was running at a quicker speed to the film (checked all settings were at default and in synch).

Are some AVI files known to cause more problems than others, or are they all inherently the same if they come in this format?

Sound-synching seems to be something of a problem in the few computer-coded movies I've come across.

Most .avi movies are DivX/Xvid. Install those, along with AAC and AC3 for sound and you should have all you need in that section. Or grab a pack like CCCP which installs all the codecs and settings you'll need (not dumb like the Kazaa pack and will NOT mess up your computer like others).

Use TMPGEnc Xpress to convert, and TMPGEnc Author to burn with menus and titles and whatever you want. Or use Nero to just get the movie.

With TMPGEnc you can select how much you want to fit on a single DVD-R and it compresses the quality fairly well to meet those needs.

Takes a while for conversion though. Byuing a 60$ CAN DVD player is a lot easier.

I burn and buy. I get movies off Netflix and burn them (even print up the cover and disc), but I'll buy a movie to replace a burned movie. I'm currently working on slowly replacing the burned DVDs with storebought ones, except the OOP ones (or maybe the REALLY bad ones)
