Good timing.

Members of Parliament have passed a divisive and contentious bill, putting Canada one step closer to becoming just the third country in the world to sanction same-sex marriage.

After years of debate, the House of Commons put Bill C-38 to a vote after its third and final reading late Tuesday night.

With the Liberals enjoying the support of almost all the Bloc Quebecois and NDP MPs, the legislation passed easily in a 158 to 133 vote.

Land of the Dead

I think those who were disappointed in Land of the Dead, while entitled to their opinion, are completely missing the point. What makes Romero's dead trilogy (Quadrilogy?) so important is that each film just absolutely ripped the guts out of American culture at that moment - NOLD hits the whole racial hatred / race riots right on the head; Dawn captures teh whole 70s affluence and malaise while Day bashes the hell out of Reagan-era "EVIL EMPIRE" nonsense. Land of the Dead so absolutely captures the screwed up nature of our "post-9/11" America its terrifying.

In fact, I think the fact that Romero works diligently to keep us from being "scared" of the zombies is part of the political critique at work in this film. The zombies are "just trying to find their way" as we all are. If you make them too horrific and violent, although they are certainly that, then Romero falls into the exact cultural logic he is critiquing - might makes right; the "other" is evil and should be destroyed.

So, for me, Romero's film is just about perfect by not giving us the easy shocks, gore, and thrills we're expecting. More power to Romeros for continuing to make intelligent films in a genre not exactly known for its intellectual pedigree.

Damnit!

Zero, don't be condescending, thank you so very much.

If I want social commentary, I'll ready Marx or Nietszche, maybe even a little Aristotle. I don't, however, what that in my horror movies.

I want to be entertained. Maybe, even a little scared...ah that's good. I don't want to play pin the tail on the social ills. Hell, I have to deal with those every day in the news, on the street, etc.

So, don't tell me I missed the point. If I want that kind of crap, I wouldn't go see a Romero film.

I don't personally disagree with what you said. I understood the message and it was one of the movies highpoints. What I disliked about the movie was the poor acting, the horrible effects, and a story that pretty much meandered from one point to the next.

Just because Romero throws raw meat out for hard core gore fans that doesnt mean we are all obliged to enjoy it.

Darkness Falls...I expected a bit more

ALL of Full Moon's videos after Castle Freak...They just sucked more and more until I completely gave up after 'Killjoy'

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things...Promising title...Didn't deliver

HOWEVER...Children Of The Living Dead was pretty good :)
