Forbidden Planet remake

For a while there was talk of a remake of Forbidden Planet, which is my all time favorite movie. What happened to the idea?
I always thought a prequel would be awesome, telling of the early days of Morbius & his wife Julia Morrison, and what happened to the Bellerophon & its crew. Wouldn't really wanna see a remake of the original movie...How do you top perfection?
I have seen FP over 1000 times, know the entire dialogue (which is why no one will watch it with me) and owned it on every single medium...VHS,DVD,DVR,even had a copy on 35 mm back in the day, and a reel-to-reel copy of the soundtrack.Seeing it for the 1st time as a kid scared the beejeezus outta me, 'cause I just knew that ID was somewhere nearby, since you couldn't see it.
Somebody PLEASE do a prequel, and make the monster as frightening as the original.

A prequel would be so much better than a remake. The story of the Bellerophon crew has always fascinated me.

A prequel is a great story setting.
